Food no-no s

Recommended Posts

The only thing that I have found that I absolutely cannot eat no matter if I've got good restriction at the time or not is General Tso's chicken from the chinese restaurant - it used to be my main dish that I always got and when I tentatively tested the waters with it one night I couldn't even eat a whole one little chunk and wasted the entire meal while I sat there and picked pieces of beef and brocooli off of my boyfriends plate. I have to be careful about certain things but that seems to be the only thing I absolutely cannot tolerate.

From what I understand from one of my appointments the constant all day munching is what does it. At my last support group one of the girls who has lost over 100 lbs said she ate a whole Italian sandwich but it took her over 1 hr and she could not drink or eat anything else with it. She had not had a fill in 9 months and said she thought it was time. She said that she can eat anything she wants if she wants to take all day to eat it. But she is looking great and still loosing. She is just a lucky one I guess.

I love Ice cream and that is the one thing I think I will honestly miss. I have already decided that if I am craving it wicked bad and cant get it off my mind I will have some but only 2 times a month. I feel you have to give yourself permission to have something once in a while because then it will feel like torture.

I have already started trying to do without bread like when I have a hamberger I will eat it without the bun and cut it into small bites. I never thought I could do no bread but it is actually not too bad.

How about spagetti? It is one of my favorit meals to have my mom make when we go to her house for dinner. If I stick to a small protion it should be ok right. I am going to have her make it for me right before I have my banding.

I am so glad I found this board yesterday....

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
