After Reaching My Goal Weight Labband Slips - Should I Do Revision Surgery Or Leave It Alone?

Recommended Posts

Day I finally went to the emergency and they discovered that Lap Band I had put in my stomach on October 2010 has severely slipped. and I was way dehydrated since I couldn't drink more than a half a glass of Water a day before and couldn't get out the bed because of the weakness.

It was also the day I reached my goal weight of 150lbs....

Now, completely unfilled waiting for my lap band to gastric sleeve revision. food...

My roommate though something was not right when I came home with groceries one day.

6 IVs a day keep the dehydration away...

It would be interesting to see nurses faces when they will be stapling 90% of my stomach off - I am so tiny now... but I love it.

Now...

The question part - should I just have it taken out or should I do revision to sleeve surgery at the same time since they can do it for free for me since it was a slip. Even though I am at my goal weight - they offered it.

Well, I just feel like I am greedy. Surgery cost 27,000 and now even though it slipped, I finally reached my goal. But you know you never know - I am just afraid that some day I will be fat again and I will regret that I did not do sleeve when I had the chance.

What would you recommend?

Wow! That is entirely up to you and your sureon, but personally, I would be greedy and have the surgery. I, also, had a slip and a revision. But, I did not have a sleeve put in. I am struggling in maintenance due to having 5 cc in my band and not being able to tolerate any more than that. Maintenance is a lot harder than losing weight to me. Best wishes whatever you do decide. Karen

If it was me i would be more concerned over losing a lot more weight, but if that doesnt happen with the sleeve then good .. I wish u well and a speedy recovery :)

I would get it done. As long as dr. says it is fine. I would not want to gain weight ever again after losing so much. Good luck. Will pray for you.

If it was covered... I would do it. But that is me.

Do you feel like you can maintain without the band? How long do you have to make decision? Can you see how you do with no fill for awhile?

Sorry about your slip. Good luck with your decision.

Can they do the plication without the band? Free is good but I would be scared to have them cut so much on me.

I was just banded on 6/28. If mine slipped and they offered that to me, I would jump at it. I think you have a few less restrictions with the sleeve.

My band slipped 1 year ago. My doc decided that removal would be my best option at the time. I was sure that I would never gain the weight again. I was at goal. Well 50# and 1 year later I am banded again. This was a tough decision, but I could not be over 300# again. It's a tough choice. Do what your heart tells you.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
