Hello. My surgery is July 2nd...I'm on day 4 of my liquid protein shake diet and I'm so sick of drinking them! I can barely get 4 down a day. It wasn't so bad the first few days but now I almost vomit smelling the protein powder! I'm afraid I'm going to cheat, help please!

My surgery is on 2nd July too! I also started my liquid diet and I am going through the same problem and it's increasing as the days go! I get bad headaches too! Keep in contact and let me know how everything is going for u! We can get through this! :)

I haven't started my pre op diet so my words are only ones of encouragement. Can you try a different type of shake? A different flavor? Maybe freezing it and making it a smoothie? You CAN do this- the goal is in sight! I am thinking of you, and sending power your way! I will be asking you for your advise in a month.

I really appreciate all the encouragement! My doctor wants me to take the bariatric advantage protein shakes along with some recipes that allow me to add fruit and oatmeal to the vanilla protein powder. After the 2nd day I don't feel hungry but force myself to drink them anyways. It's more of a mental struggle

Try using sugar free syrups to change up the flavors. I have also read if you drink through a straw, you won't smell the powder.

I'm right there with you. I'm actually literally plugging my nose now to get them down ;) but I'm not going to give up. We will be on the other side. One thing they suggested that I am going to try this weekend is Protein Water with special K mix in - it tastes pretty good, strawberry kiwi, pink lemonade. I'm drinking some of that to supplement one drink. Also they said I could mix in some Protein drinks with milk to water them down a bit (still get the protein from the milk) and I tried that and it does dilute the taste.

WE can do this! Just think how great we'll feel on the other side.

By the way for me the headaches were finally gone after the 4th day - I think that will get better.

I did and have continued to put vanilla protein powder in my morning coffee. That way get my caffeine and protein all in one shot! If you get the flavorless type you can add it to various juices or broths which helps. You can do it!

I'm supposed to drink two protein shakes and 1 cup of soup a day. I am starving! Second day and I have been eating some sugar free/fat free pudding and I ate a pickle and two olives. I am going to call the clinic because the protein shakes and soup only add up to about 700 calories. I feel like it should be more.

I drank & still do EAS ADVANTAGE. It is the best. Propel Zero water in black cherry. You can eat soup, jello & jello pudding. Sugar-free yogurt. Everything has to be sugar-free. It is a whole new lifestyle. I hate but, I need healthy. I am praying for you. I have been where u are at. Be strong & you can do it. If you can find CLEMMY'S ice cream it is sugar-free & good. I am here for u.

I'm on day 11 of liquids I drink 2 protein shakes a day Dr Atkins Carmel latte in the morning and strawberry at bed time I add one scoop of chike powder to step up the protein I have one can of cream of chicken soup water down throughout the day and some beef broth sf Popsicles and sf jello and I have had no problems I think the trick is adding a new taste I had tomato soup one day and was that a treat good luck

I tried various kinds of protein shakes. I could not handle the powder so I use the ready made. For me, the rich chocolate Boost high protein is the best tasting; however my husband swears by his muscle milk. I think you need to find one that you can tolerate because you will have a long history with protein shakes. My doctor does not want them to be used on a daily basis, but after you have a fill, you have to go back to them for a day or two, so you might as well get one you like.

As far as the headaches, once you get through the carb withdrawal, they should go away. Stay strong!!

I would talk to the doctor's office about maybe adding broth/stock to your "foods"; or more Protein shakes. While pickles are low in cals they are high in salt which causes Water retention.

On a serious note. I can not believe anyone on here is recommending ice cream for the liquid diet. SERIOUSLY!!! Yes I am shouting. Liquid diets suck in a big way. But this is a medical perscription. If someone is having weight loss surgery and is told to be on a low cal diet ice cream is the absolutely last thing they should be eating.

Not sure how much juice you can have, but I really like naked juice protien juice. Very filling.

I haven't been doing very well on the preop diet either. I started out with the best intentions (two protein shakes and a lean green meal). I was so proud of myself for trying different brands of protein shakes too, so that I could find the ones that were the best for my needs but also the best tasting (Dr Atkins brand and EAS ADVANTAGE carb control). I was doing so good but then it all went down the drain. So far I have snuck in things during my lean green meal (pickles, cucumber, jalapanos, bag of salad with fat free italian dressing, mustard -not at the same time) and even blatantly cheated by sucking on flaming hot cheetos and then spitting them out (my idea at the time of technically not completely cheating). I've gone through crying spells for not being able to eat the things I used to eat whenever I wanted them. I even mourn for the places I used to eat (Texas de Brazil, Sweet Tomato, Olive Garden). I'm an emotional mess 50% of the time, extra cranky 35% of the time and only normal-ish 15% of the time..

My surgery is on Wednesday 6/27 and I'm not sure how this will affect me going under. I'm scared but I can't go back now. I have lost weight despite cheating but will it be enough for my body? I'm so frightened of this surgery that I've discussed death with my family and what to do in the event that I do die. I'm not trying to be overly dramatic but this is just how I feel. Am I alone in this rollercoaster of pre-op madness?
