Update on my back...

Recommended Posts

Well it's official I have a herniated disc and something wrong with another disc above it. :)

I am going to have an anti-inflamatory injection that is guilded via x-ray into my back sometime next week. With the pain I'm in I'm ready to do just about anything.

They also want me to go to physical therapy 3x a week for 4-6 wks. That's going to fly like a lead balloon when/if I ever get a job.

Yeah I've heard that from several people that they help. I am looking forward to having it done. I figure it won't be any worse than the epidural I had with my daughter. :)

Good to see ya on here Ray!

Carrie, I am wondering what the official name of these injections are called. Are they called "anti-inflammatory injections" or are the called something else. My Mother has horrible back pain, with herniated disks, and degernative arthritis. I am wondering if this is something that might be helpful beside the oral pain meds. If so, what type of doctor does these injections?

Thanks, Shawn

I'm not sure what the technical term is for them, but I will try to find out for you.

I am seeing a spine surgeon, I am pretty sure he is going to do the injection. From what I gather they are pretty expensive as they are doing a pre-approval from my insurance company.

Hey Carrie, I have had the injections, they actually don't hurt at all - tiny little pinch when they numb the area. They helped me some, but did not relieve all the pain. I ended up with spine surgery, which ended up being a Godsend! Made a world of difference. Good luck, hope the injections help you!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
