Filled On June 11Th... Still No Restriction

Recommended Posts

i had lap band surgery on May 10th,2012. i recieved my 1st fill on June 11th. i recieved 4cc's. Everyone told me i shud b full off the Water they give u to drink b4 u leave the hospital... Nope i drank that down and was hungry abt 45 mins later. i had sugar free jello.. it went down just fine.. and all the other liquids have done the same.. Yesterday i went bk to "normal" foods... well i had chicken noodle Soup and i believe i could have ate the entire thing. i just know to stop myself. Ive only lost 16 pounds and 10 of those came off pre op on the clear liquid diet. Im feeling a little discouraged and thinking if i made the right decision.. Any words of advice would be great....

Everyone is different.

You usually need a few fills to feel restriction. Just follow the rules and have patience.

Took me 3 fills and a total of 7cc to get there!

Took me 6 months of fills to get restriction. Soup is also a slider. It is going to pass right through the pouch into the big stomach.

In general however it can take up to 2 weeks for a fill to take affect.

You're going to be in "bandster hell" for a few weeks. And Honk is right. Soup is a slider. You can be in the green zone and soup will slide through. I can eat 3 cups of slider foods. Normal food would be 3 ozs of protein(chicken, fish) and maybe 2-3 ozs of a vegetable. If you're going to feel restriction, you'll have to eat meat. But eat it in small bites, and chew much more than ever, and eat slowly. If you feel a pressure in your chest/stomach area, that's restriction and you'll have to learn how to eat again.

It took me 6 fills before I got to the green zone.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
