Had My First Fill

Recommended Posts

Well, had my first fill since my surgery on May 2. Happy to say I'm down 18 pounds. The past 10 days I noticed that I was feeling more hungry and able to eat more, so I'm happy that I didn't have a weight gain. As for the fill, it wasn't as bad as I thought. The PA found my port quickly and before I knew it the needle was in. What I was more worried about was standing up, with the needle in, so I could drink some Water. I wasn't too sure what I would feel at first, but then it felt like a lump at the back of my throat. I told her when that feeling went away(which was fast) and she added more saline. We did it again, but it was too tight so she took some out. I have 5.4 cc's in a 10 cc band. Now just have to do the full liquids for 24hours then, mushies for 24 hours, then back to regular food. Next fill, July 26!

I go for my first fill on 6/19. I'm a little nervous. As soon as I changed to soft foods I have been feeling so hungry. I'm scared I'm going to gain weight.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
