What Can You Not Eat?

Recommended Posts

Do you ever feel like the band never lacks for a dull moment? :). I discovered last night that I cannot eat corn on the cob. WOW! That was bad! What can you NOT eat?

Steak and pork chops. I used to have problems with corn early on too but now it goes down just fine.

Strangely, hummus. I thought it would be a slider food but it wasn't! If I didn't have the band I would have thought I was having a heart attack!

We are in the same boat. I should be a size 4 by now since there is soooo much I can't eat. I guess I find a lot of good substitutes.......lol

I am unable to eat pulled pork, bread, corn & any type of dry meat. Since I have a culinary background I manage with other food very well try using a slow cooker add Water for moister foods.

Steak, fish if it's not super moist and fresh(no leftovers), sometimes eggs, pork, chicken if it's not very small chunks and very moist, bread, deli meats(cuz I eat them too fast).

I have stayed away from bread, drier meats (barbecue) and all beef.

The only thing post op that I am newly intolerant of is anything which contains mayonnaise; quite a surprise, as I used to have it often with tuna salad before.

Up until this last fill, I was able to eat pretty much anything. Now I can't eat any bread without getting stuck. Most cuts of steak are too tough, except Filet Minon and Bob Evans Breakfast sirloin. I eat alot of salmon and other types of fish and chicken as long as it's really tender. Corn so far has not been an issue, thank goodness. I can also eat rice and Pasta where alot of people can not, so I guess over all I am pretty lucky. but I really do have to plan and portion my meals out or I will over eat at times. If the summer stays hot like it was last week though, that shouldn't be a problem. Seems as if the heat swells my band more, so I tend to slow down more and eat alot less, which for the most part is a good thing. Good luck to you:)

I can never eat bread, steak, chicken are tough, salads take a lot of chewing. If I really need to eat something I puree it in the magic bullet , looks bad but I get the taste and i can swallow it. But y ou know I am fine with that. I dream of a Rare Cheeseburger with Tomato and mayo but IT JUST WILL NOT GO DOWN. Never again will I darken the door of a Subway. But I can shop in any store I want and it fits. So I"ll take that trade off..

dry pork chops or dry chicken , no way but moist is fine. Hash browns and other potatoes and thick potato chips all swell after a couple of bites, so i limit them to 2-3 tiny bites. thin potatoe chips, no problems. After my 5th fill i had a horrible "stuck and up chuck" incident with raw broccoli (It was'nt pretty) . I just had my 6th fill 3 days ago, we shall see.......................... As another poster said , she could walk into any store and find cute clothes, and yes , the tradeoff is so worth it ! Good bye potatos, hello skinny jeans !!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
