Should You Eat If You're Not Feeling Hungry?

Recommended Posts

I had my first fill earlier today and am not feeling hungry (for the first time since POD #4!). I'm on liquids today, back to mushies tomorrow and solids on Wednesday.

But my question is this - should I eat a "meal" or something if I am not feeling hungry? This is really the first time I'm feeling significant restriction and don't feel like eating. Tonight is one thing, but I'm worried this is going to become a habit. Do you eat because you should, 3 times a day, or do you listen to your body and abstain? My understanding is that we should not skip meals, but nor do I want to eat when I'm not hungry. That's how I got this way in the first place!

What do y'all think?

Your body needs fuel to function so you will need to eat. But if you have now got restriction (which won't be clear until you are eating normal foods again, and even then, possibly a couple of weeks down the track), you will quickly realise the importance of choosing the right fuel to fit into your smaller tank. You will want quality fuel that enables your body to function at its optimum level - Proteins, fibres etc.

So, I haven't really answered your question, but I think in a day or two you will find yourself hungry again. Just concentrate on making good choices.

Best of luck.

My dr says, if you aren't hungry, don't eat. I'm sure you got a little extra fuel to tide you over!

My doctor says the same thing as Holly Dolly's. If you aren't hungry.....don't eat. This worked very well for me. I am rarely hungry, maybe once a month, so while I was in losing mode I ate a salad with chicken or something similar to that every other day and took a lot of Vitamin suppliments. Now that I'm in maintnance mode, I still take the suppliments, but eat at least once a day. This is not the opinion of most doctors, and I know there are a ton of people that would disagree with what I did and do, so make sure to follow whatever your doctor recommends. By following my doctor's instructions, I hit goal weight at 9-10 months post op and then lost 10 or so more and am maintaining well :)

My doctor also says, don't eat if you are not hungry. Enjoy the feeling of not being hungry.

My doctor explained to me that no matter what you should always eat three meals. Your body needs to function and you don't want it to go into starvation mode and start storing everything.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
