High Liver Enzyme Values?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone's pre-op liver values been elevated? I got my lab results back today, and the normal is 0-31 u/L, and mine are 284 and 181!!! (the ALT and AST enzyme values) The nurse said that the doctor didn't say anything about not going ahead with surgery (scheduled for May 30!), but that I needed to make an appt with my family doctor (which I did). Also, I have been doing the pre-op liquid/liver shrinking/detox diet for a week already. I have a history of liver issues in my family, so I'm very worried.

It's definitely something you need to follow up with, not for the sake of the band but for your own health. I'd follow up with your family doctor and see what they say.

Best wishes to you, I hope it all turns out well so you can have a healthy liver and still get your band.

My enzymes are always slightly elevated, but never that high. I would definitely go ahead with follow-up and consult your primary doctor on that, especially if there is a family history of this. I know mine is high because I have very mild fatty liver disease, which mine is because I had gone so long with high cholesterol and gallbladder disease that they fat started depositing in my liver. Another check box in the yes I want lap band surgery pro list!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
