Banded 4/23 And Exhausted

Recommended Posts

I was banded 4/23 and I am exhausted. I try telling myself that I'm only three weeks post op and that I just need to heal but I do not have the energy to do anything. I feel like a lump on a log with no motivation, energy or spirit. I just don't feel like myself. I'm trying to get in all 50 g of Protein and am doing pretty well at that. I am also taking Vitamins. I just don't know what to do! My life is just supposed to be getting started again and I feel like it's about to end. I know, a little dramatic, but I'm struggling. I just don't feel like myself. Is this common????

It sounds like you have some degree of food withdrawal and maybe a little depression. Try to make sure your food intakeis blanced nutritionally, not sure what stage u are at post op wise .. are u on mushies ? also u dont mention what exercise u are doing. You need to discuss how u are feeling with the doctor, it may be that u need to get some blood tests done to check thyroid and Iron levels etc. Going for a brisk walk can help lift the spirit along with doing other exercise, it may well be that what u are feeling will go away and u will soon feel a lot more energised, but u do really need to discuss this with your doctor :)

It's ok to be a lump. I was the first two weeks. Sleepy wanted to rest a lot, this is your body telling you to rest. Di make sure you are getting your Protein and make sure you are getting enough liquid. Give yourself a break, your body has gone through a great change and stress:)

I felt that same way. I discovered my carb intake was to low for me. I increased my good carbs a little and that worked like a charm.

I was extremely tired as well (Banded 4/20). I would come home from work and head straight to bed. I am just starting to last the whole day without taking a nap and resting. Walking helped me a lot, I go for walks every night with my husband and it seems to be helping. For me, when I dont get all my Water in, I feel worse. So get your rest like your body is telling you, Get your Protein, water and walk. It has only been a short time, your body needs to heal. Good Luck.

I also don't think that 50 g Protein is enough, my doc said 70+ g would be good. Try to sneak in another Protein Shake to up that. I know that was essential to my feeling my normal self with energy to do everything after surgery.

Also, you might want to try to add in electrolytes, by drinking smartwater or pedialyte. Water by itself is not enough to replace electrolytes. Hope it helps! :)

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
