Anyone Have Ky Access Ins?

Recommended Posts

Hi I'm a newbie on here and just in the beginning stages of all of this. I currently have BCBS Cobra from my divorce with my ex-husband's policy but it is due to expire June 30th. I was hoping to get everything approved and done and surgery by then but doesn't look like that is going to happen, fingers still crossed. Effective July 1st I have to go on Ky Access, which is a insurance that will insure you because no one else will due to our weight/height. I am 46, 5'2" and weigh 287 and no one would insure me due to this so I am forced to go on Ky Access. Ky Access does cover Lap Band but when I call since I'm not enrolled they will not give me details on requirements. Hoping someone can enlighten me. Thanks.

I have Kentucky Humana as my primary insurance and Anthem/BS&BS as secondary. They both had the standard 6 months weigh in, but after that they paid. After pre-op testing and 6 month weigh ins, it really took me a year to get to surgery date. I had lap band on April 9th. GOOD LUCK

I don't think Ky Humana is the same? Currently my BCBS that expires next month didn't require the 6 month weigh in diet by my doctor because my BMI was at 52, they waived it. As for Ky Access, all they told me was they would pay for the Lap Band if it deemed medically necessary, that's all the info I could get out of them.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
