Banded 4.18.12 And Frustrated

Recommended Posts

I’ve lost 14 lbs since I started this process but really thought it would be more. I was banded on 4.18.12. I think about what I ate and drank in a typical day just a month ago, I look at what I’m ingesting these days and I wonder, why aren’t I down 20-30 pounds? People keep saying it’s normal but I don’t get it. I’ll keep following my diet plan, though it’s getting harder. I’m still feeling a little unsettled. I feel weak, tired, and sometimes hungry. I feel like I’m dieting. It’s so hard to stay motivated right now.

I get that feeling too sometimes. Keep your head up and know it will take a little longer to get to restriction, but when you do it will be much easier.

You are only 3 weeks post opp so this next couple of weeks are for healing, not losing. Not to burst your bubble but you will also probably go into bandster hell as well and that will take pure willpower until you hit the green zine. Sorry to be so blunt but I'm just amazed how many surgeons don't priority educate patients on this process. Its very slow but once you hit the green zone the weight will just fall off. I've been BA nded since 10/27 and I just hit it with my April fill. Its such a difference and wonderful. You are doing well at 14lbs lost in a couple of weeks. Just hang in there and keep up the good work and take this time to learn to eat like a banter.

I'm sorry but I can't be as kind as the others. Do the math? You must burn 3500 calories to lose 1 lb. Even if you take in only 1000 calories of food a day, and use up about 2000 calories through sitting, exercising, walking, thinking, you will only lose 2 lbs per week*. 10 of the 14 lbs you've lost are probably just Water weight. 14 lbs is terrific, it's sensational, something to be overjoyed about. jmo

*1000 X 7 = 7000 calories/wk input -2000 X 7 = 14000 used calories = 7000 more calories burned or approximately 2 lbs.

Hang in there!!! this can be a very frustrating time but don't rush it. You may even gain some weight between now and finding the green zone. I was there with you and ended up slipping my band because I wanted to lose weight faster and faster - the band isn't designed for quick sudden weight loss like gastric bypass - just keep reminding yourself of that!!

Keep up the good work - like everyone else said 14lbs in three weeks is great!

you are just coming out of the healing phase that your body had to go through. dont concentrate on weight loss but concentrate instead on new eating habits. weight will come off in time. first priority is to help your body heal by doing the right things. I was banded on the 22nd of march, and while my initial weight loss was rapid, its now slowed down. i prefer it that way. im feeling more able to cope Healthwise . as i come up to my first banding next week, im happy with the body changes that are going on. Dont push it. First priority now is healing and learning all about the band and the new eating plan.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
