Leak In My Band

Recommended Posts

Sorry I've not posted in a very long time, I was doing awesome with the band until this past October when suddenly I had no restriction. Nothing unusually occurred so I was very confused. I slowly started putting weight back on and was battling old habits. I waited a few weeks to see if maybe it was just my imagination but I kept pushing it with meals and types of food still with no issues. I couldn't get in to see my dr. till after the Christmas holidays which of course killed me weight wise. Finally, got in and he said he highly doubted it was a leak said the band my have moved a little due to my great weight loss. He filled me a little however, still no change. Didn't get in for another 6 weeks and I continued to gain.. Long story short he realized it much be a leak, he felt horrible about my situation and of course I'm his first leak ever. Guess I have to go in for another fill under an xray to see where my leak is then we go from there.. This totally sucks I feel extremely frustrated and I've put 25lbs back on not happy at all because not only have I gained I stopped losing and I was on such a great track...

Huge Bummer. I guess they can possibly fix leaks? Hope you don't have to have it replaced. Good luck

Sorry to hear that, but at least you know what caused the gain. :( Hopefully the leak is coming from the tubing or port and can be easily replaced.

Keep us posted!

Finally had the test to find the leak and Yup I have a leak which sucks. The good news they said is it's in the hose section close to the port so for the most part its an easy fix however, they weren't specific why. I'm still waiting for the consultation appt to hear the explanation and about the procedure.. Of course I'm the first leak for this specific doctor and only the second in the office among the three doctors.. Has anyone else ever had a leak fixed? If I had a nickle for every time the doc apologized I'd be a millionaire.

I had a leak in my port. I had my port replaced and my restriction returned. I am sorry about your leak. Very frustrating!! I was able to get back on track quickly once repaired. I hope you are able to as well.

Gee, that really is unfortunate for you. But look on the bright side, it can and will be fixed. At least you had the right kind of surgery, think of what a mess you would be in if it was another kind of weight loss surgery. Good luck.

Well I was VERY tender and sore where the port was replaced. Honestly more sore than I remembered from initial surgery. I am assuming it was because they removed the old and restitched to same muscle.

Luckily my surgeon went through the same port incision so I don't have any additional scars!! But after Lapband, gallbladder, and my upcoming surgery... I have so many holes in my abdomen I wouldn't notice!! Lol.

You will do fine!!! :)

I know what you mean about thinking it was your imagination when you lost restriction. That is actually the topic heading of when I found out I had a leak. I was suppose to have follow up today to find out location of leak but MD had to return to OR so I had to reschedule for tomorrow. When I first lost restriction and for about 3 months I just kept thinking it was my imagination because I was also under alot of stress but I have had a total of 2.5 cc saline injected in past 6 weeks and on recheck none drawn back. I just hope my insurance isn't impossible to help with the repair/replacement. I've had my band since 2003 and never had any problems until this year. Good luck to you and I will be watching your posts on your progress.

thanks for the reply, I've been playing phone tag with them attempting to get my appointment scheduled to repair the leak. According to them it sounds like it's a very quick appointment and done as an outpatient possibly with no anesthesia. I really need to get this fixed, I was doing so great before and now have put 25+ back on which sucks...

Ok I haven't posted in ages. I wanted to wait until I finally had the leak fixed. The delays killed me, I put on 35lbs totally sucks, but finally they fixed the problem. They replaced the entire port instead of just fixing the tube, they felt since they were there might as well upgrade everything.. Now it's back to the beginning, he put in about 3cc's but not feeling much restriction. I hate this process of finding the happy place.. If anyone has to go through this process feel free to shoot me a message.

I'm really sorry this happened to you. Everyone prays that stuff like this doesn't happen to them. But I really appreciate your posting about your experience. The rest of us can try to learn from it.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
