When You First Lose Weight, Does Your Body Think You Are Going In Starvation Mode ???

Recommended Posts

Thought this was a relevant question since your body is NOT GETTING THE food AND CALORIES you once had. If this is true...COMMON SENSE would tell you that your body is noticing a big change and starting to store calories. But then the inevitable happens...and you bust through and you lose the weight.

Now you and I know that we are not starving because we feel full and good (for most people anyway) but in reality...doesn't your body think its starving in comparison to how you used to eat before?

Thoughts/Opinions?

I asked my doctor that recently and they told me that unless you can't get anything down, small portions will not trick your body into starvation, but like all diets eventually you will have to up the exercise because your system gets used to the same old routine and needs more to burn off the weight.

It is also the reason why they push the daily Vitamin, Calcium routine to suppliment you with the things that we may be missing out on with a limited diet. Hope that helps you.

That is what I have just been thinking but never really saw a person put it that way on this board.

Thoughts?

Yes, and that is the point. It forces the body to use it's storage for energy to maintain life and because it is using what is stored we lose weight.

I'm not sure if you are talking "starvation", "starvation mode", or "malnutrition". I do think I went through a long period of some malnutrition even with taking many vits. and keeping my Protein levels up. I also think it's par for the course.

You might to check out the Starvation Mode thread that was started a couple of days ago and is still very active I think you would find some theroies and ideas over there. (not that you won't find them here--hahaha...but they are already over there and you can read them now rather than waiting for replies)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
