7 Day Post Op-Stomach Ache

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone around days 5 and onward post-op, have experience stomach aches? It seems constant, but I notice it more after i eat. I do follow my doc's nutrition plan, so not eating anything I’m not supposed to be. Also has anyone been tracking how much calorie intake they have been getting?

My menu usually consist of: BF-Protein shake, Lunch-Cream Soup, Dinner-Cream soup, 2 snacks- s.f Jello and s.f popsicle - Is that fine? Not a lot of calories, so i'm wondering if that may be the reason for the belly aches? Any feedback appreciated. :-)

Hi i am on day 9 post-op. i know all surgeons are different but I was instructed to 50 grams of Protein Shakes per day. Plus all Clear Liquids and sf popsicles (thank god for them) sf Jello and 64 oz of Water each day. I have not been tracking my calories but counting my grams of Protein. Hope the helps!

I don't get those stomach aches (6-days postop) but it seems like you're eating a lot of dairy... Maybe try a day off from cream Soups and switch to broths? Good luck!

I'm 11 days post op with about the same diet as you (plenty of Water also). I did have a few days that I had a stomach ache. I don't really know if I would classify it as a stomach ache though. More of a "yucky" feeling in my stomach. I know very descriptive right? I don't really know how to better explain it though. It did seem to be mostly after sitting for longer periods of time. I would say give it a couple more days and if it doesn't get better call your doc. If it gets worse or you feel like you might throw up I would call your doctor right away though.

youve been through a lot with diet change etc. do you have tummy wind as well?/ is the pain more in your gut than higher in your stomach?? ive had a lot of wind pain since the op. im sure its due to the change in diet. i had more wind last night than normal (tmi.. sorry lol.) after i had my first meal of veges and meat without it being sloppy. im sure it had something to do with that. im not sure how much air is being swallowed as well.... that could be a factor.

I remember having stomach pain for the first two weeks. I followed clear liquids to full liquids all the way through...but remember your stomach is healing and needs time to adjust. I was banded 2010 (dec). Still learning that you must stay on liquids for three days after a fill (my doctor rules) there's a reason for that...stomach is being messed with. Give it time and see by next week. Hope that help but call your doc

Yes the pain is higher, but no tummy wind, lol. I did get that in the beginning days though. I really now believe its just my body reacting to what just happened a week ago, but luckily i have a doc appointment next tuesday. Thanks for your post.

Oh i'm sorry to hear about that "yucky" feeling, hope it gets better. Definately don't have that throw-up feeling, so going to wait it out until doctors visit. It is bearable, actually don't have the pain today, just hunger pains :-(

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
