My 2nd fill story

Recommended Posts

On Thursday I went to the Dr.'s office for another fill. I knew I needed some more sweet juice, so I FINALLY went in. When I got there, the Dr.'s assistant checked to be sure I still had 2.7cc's in there... (she said there was)

Dr. Spivak checked himself and said that there wasn't! So... He thought it might be leaking or whatever happens when the saline goes away  So, he got paged and had to leave the room... well this PA (physician's assistant) was told to get the omnipaque (sp?) and to fill me back up to 2.7cc's. Well she did that and I couldn't even get the barium down.... so she backed it off to 2.2cc, I swallowed more barium, and it went straight thru.

So, they added back up to 2.5cc's, too tight... Back and forth, back and forth we went... Which, by the way, I had no problem with since I wanted to get the right amount of fill.

SO, they put 2.5cc's in me and told me to go drink my bottle of Water and see how it went down...

I go out into the waiting area, and I can feel that it isn't going down at all. I go back in to the room with the flouro (sp?) machine and this time (THANK GOODNESS) Dr. Spivak does the adjusting and puts me at 2.2cc's!!! That is my SWEET SPOT for now.

That poor little PA was so overwhelmed, I could tell, but I surely wasn't going to leave without the proper restriction.

It was like I was getting stressed so my band would tighten... then I would calm down and it would all flow thru... Those people probably thought I was NUTS!!!

So, here I am at 2.2cc's and VERY happy with it...:clap2:

Heather,

Im confused.

When you went for this fill, how much did you have in your band?

How much did he add?

And good for you for not leaving his office till you had the right level of restriction!

Avoiding that rollercoaster of fills/unfills is actually healthier for your band.

You brought up a really good subject. I am going to Mexico to get banded, but want to do fills here in U.S. I am getting quotes for docs that do fills, but from what I understand not all docs do flouroscopy. Is this more reliable to get an accurate fill???

It's best to get fills under fluro so the doc can really visualize the port. Without fluro, the doc is working blind. Kep looking for a doc who uses fluro.

My doc doesn't use fluro. I have had two fills and not a problem yet...knock on wood.

The first time I got a fill I looked down and saw the needle sticking out of my stomach and fainted (I am very afraid of needles). That wasn't my doctors fault I knew better than to look down LOL.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
