I am 3 weeks post op and I was starting to think maybe I was gonna be one of the lucky ones and not get hungry ever again....wrong!! I do fine at work when I am busy but the last 3 days when I get home I feel like I want to eat the house. I've been so compliant with the "rules" and now I'm starting to worry. A few hours after I ate dinner tonight I polished off my sons happy meal fries with some ketchup and washed it down with some Gatorade. What is wrong with me? I have been doing so good. I've lost 17 lbs and I'm scared I'm gonna stretch my stomach out or fall back into really bad habits. I know it was only one time but I can't help but be disappointed with myself!!

im about the same time out as you from surgery and feeling the same way. i feel disappointed with my self as well. thinking about it today i realize that our minds have to come in line with our stomach... lifetime habits are hard to give up... but with some perseverance they will go. How often are you having your meals? could you increase your ''solid'' pureed foods to perhaps slightly smaller meals but more often, say, at least four times a day? this is just off the top of my head right now. im hungry after a meal , like you. are you on meats yet?/ could you increase the amount of meat you are having? have some chick peas in with your veges as well?/ these are the same issues im grappling with right now. i have a book on handling post surgery and it does suggest to help alleviate hunger pains that we can have up to four even five smaller serves of solids a day. What do you all think?? is this viable?

I need to do better with meals. I'm still on the soft stage. I don't have time to eat Breakfast in the morning so I normally have my Protein Shake and then lunch will be something easy to eat. I've had Soups, chili, chicken salad. Today I had grilled salmon. dinner I've been sticking with refried Beans or vegetables. I'm scared to eat meat . I normally have a second Protein shake before bed. I know it's gonna take time but II just get so frusterated at myself bc everything had been going so well.

Do not drink with solid food. EVER. While on mushies try spacing out you food. This may help with head and physical hunger. I would have 8 oz of smooth Soup and then an hour later have cottage cheese or ricotta.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
