Hi all. I am also an RN, from Canada, banded 2/13/12. Took 2 weeks off work after the surgery. Loving it and soo happy that I did it. The first week I was pretty emotional wondering what i did to myself and questioned my decision but now feel it is the best thing that I ever could have done to take care of myself. We spend so much time looking after other people for me, at least, I often forget about me.

RN here in Warner Robins, Georgia to have my surgery next Friday on April 27th. Had to jump a lot of hoops to get my insurance to cover it (I have Aetna), but they did and I can't wait. I have about 100 pounds to lose so I am sure these forums will provide much needed great info! Good luck to everyone! :D

Hi Everyone!! I am a RN/BSN from northern Illinois. I am scheduled to have my surgery 6/12/12. I am so excited! There is an exclusion through my employer-provided insurance that doesn't cover WLS, so I am going to Mexico. I am the most concerned about the 2-week pre-op diet. Any experiences/suggestions??

Welcome Chamie!

My pre op diet was strictly clears and Protein Shakes. My Protein shakes were only 160 cals so in hindsight a Meal Replacement Protein Shake wouldve kept me fuller longer. That's my only suggestion. Meal replacement shakes instead of a snack shake.< /p>

I was banded yesterday! Your day will be here soon

When is the soonest you could have gone back to work? I have a desk job- not physicaly demanding at all' date=' but I have to go back as soon as I possibly can.[/quote']

I had surgey Thursday and returned to work Monday at a desk job. No problem. But driving wasnt the most comfortable thing for some reason.

I didn't have any narcotic pain killers at any point, I might mention. I had two does of sl toradol day one, and liquid Tylenol. That's it

I'm an LPN in Kansas in RN school now. Banded 7/7/11 and have lost about 75lbs so far. Was only off work for 6 days, but ended up developing gallstone pancreatitis and had a cholecystectomy in November, but wouldn't have changed a thing best decision I ever made!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
