after all my pre-op requirements and finally getting the clearance letter to the clinic to submit for approval, Dr Enochs office just told me I now need to schedule a sleep test.

THEY TELL ME THIS NOW?

can you please tell me what this is

how it works

and (I have seen on here about people failing it).

please advise as I am very distraught and upset as this (new item) that is now sprung on me.

I had a sleep study done. It is to see if you h e sleep apnea which is when u stop breathing in your sleep . They have you stay overnight and hook up a bunch of wires to you and then tell you to sleep ! Ya right you don't sleep much!! Anyways I do have it but my surgeon is ok with it he said they just needed to know so that when I am under they do some things differently not sure what exactly . He also said once I loose the weight it most likely will go away on its own!

I second what Michele39 said. sleep apnea can also be a co-morbidity, which can help with insurance approval. If you have sleep apnea, they will make sure there is a machine there because of the anesthesia and how it puts you into such a deep sleep. It might also affect what kind of anesthesia they use as well...not sure.

By the way...there's really nothing to fear from the sleep test. I've had it done and my son had one when he was about 9 or 10.

sleep test is a breeze just time consuming (hooking up the wires took about 30mins). It isn't painful you just get sticky! Some sleep study clinics take a while to get an appointment so call ASAP. I did mine 3 weeks ago and they haven't even gotten the results in yet geez. Oh and have your doc prescribe a sleep aid because the wires and different environment make it difficult to fall asleep. Good luck!

Just as others said, sleep test is no biggie. Plus it looks like you have 3 or 4 months left til you submit anyways, so you should be okay. I found it was easier to go to a clinic that specialized in sleep studies than to go to the hospital (2+ month wait for hospital, two week wait for clinic).

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
