Hello Everyone,

I was just banded on 2-17-06, I was told that it was normal to have a lot of gas and some pain in my left shoulder. Does anyone know how long these symptoms last? I have a sharp pain on my left side right about where my port was put in. It feels similar to a stitch that you would get from running. It seems to get worse in the afternoons and evenings. Is this gas? I've tried Gas-X the past couple days but it doesn't seem to have any effect. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Justbanded

Welcome to band-land. :)

The local gas remedies are: Gas-X, walking as much as possible & heating pads. I've found tea to be a relaxing addition to that list. Remember that they pumped you full of CO2 & that only time will take care of it (go go osmosis!!)

The pains can last a long time... up to 6 weeks, or so I've heard. I can vouch for the first 9 days, lol. **sigh**

I have the port pain as well. My surgeon said to not worry, that incision was physically larger (i.e. cut more of the muscle) & then the port was sutured to a muscle, which can also feel like a "stitch from running" until you adjust to it. When I push lightly I can feel the extra swelling.

I'm personally paranoid about the port pain, since for some people in some situations (stress that SOMETIMES) it can be a symptom of a port infection. So I'm watching it, but I'm not panicked quite yet... trusting my surgeon. ;) But if it has a sudden rise in temperature or I see puss, I'll be on the phone to my doc faster then anything!!

All in all I can't believe I'm doing this well 9 days out from major surgery. This new-fangled surgery rocks!!

P.S. If you don't get a lot of replies, edit your first post & change the "test" to "new to LBT". I know I ignored the "test" for a while, then I had to peek. :couch2:

Congrats on your banding & welcome to the journey!!

Jan

I also have the "stitch" feeling on the left side by my port sometimes...but everything else seems fine, so I'm trying to ignore it and hope it gets better over time. For me the gas/shoulder pain lasted about 10 days but got a lot better for the last few days of that. Hopefully you'll start to feel better soon!

Emily

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
