Anti-Inflammatory Question!

Recommended Posts

Okay so suggestions please!

I injured my knee, but i guess my surgeon doesn't want me taking anti-inflammatory medication period, and i guess this is forever not just cause i had surgery 2 weeks ago.

So what do other people do to reduice swelling, like in a joint?? =( Part of my knee pain i know is from the swelling.

Is there a reason you can't take them forever? Do you have a bleeding disorder or kidney issues? The reason I ask is there is no reason you can't with the band. Some docs advise against them because they're far more prone to upset your stomach than Tylenol, but the band itself isn't a reason not to take them.

there are some really good rubs out now. not sure that aspirin rubs are a good idea though as they penetrate the skin and go to the lining of the stomach.. ive used some really good ones. also you can buy really good knee supports that you wear. i have two artificial knees, and arthritis in my feet and hands as well. im going to be up against it as well. i dont take meds for it though.

Oh its cause my doctor feels they have a chance at causing ulcers because of the band, thats what they told me when i called today that is..... i think my doctor is one of the over cautious type. I'm just trying hard to follow strict instructions because i've only had the band for 2 weeks and 2 days at this point >.<

Maybe try Biofreeze. I have heard that the NSAIDS can eat away at the stomach lining and that is why they don't want banded folks taking them.

How about an ice pack

I take NSAIDs whenever I need to. My surgeon said that rule is mainly for bypass patients.

Green tea and broccoli have anti-inflamatory properties, there are other foods as well. Otherwise, ice and rubs are about all you can do. My surgeon allows occasional use of anti-inflamatories for band patients. No so for sleeve or bypass.

My doc told me the band maker advises against nsaids, aspirins. He also told me no anti-inflammatories or steriods etc.

That basically leaves me with the options of Tylenol or narcotics.

I hurt my knee a long time ago and a hot wet gel pack from the drug store saved my life...seriously I couldnt even walk without holding onto stuff! It was called Spenco and you soaked it in Water and then microwaved it...it had long stretchy velcro straps on it. It dripped so I would wrap up my knee with it , then a towel and just watch some TV.

Thanks guys! All the advice is wonderful and gives me stuff to try instead of just gritting and baring it. I appricate it greatly!

one more thing i bought today shopping in preparation for it all... some Panadol Rapid Soluble. Does anyone know of this meds?/ Im in Australia and havent seen a lot to choose from with liquid pain killers.. especially ones without aspirin and no anti inflammatories.

just some thoughts of mine on arthritic joints and lap band. for a while now, when i knew i was going to have the band surgery, i determined that my diet was going to change to the point where my body is far more alkaline.

i have bad arthritis in nearly every joint and i know my body is acidic. Due to bad diet.

So, ive bought barley green, which is very much like spirrulina... and has heaps of Vitamins and minerals etc. years ago i was on this powder and it made a tremendous difference to how i felt.I dont even remember now why i didnt continue to take it. probably because discipline hasnt been one of my strong points up until this point in time. Now i have my back against the wall, its different. i have other ideas about my diet as well... but i need to get banded and back on my feet first.

So, im hoping now that changing my diet by making my boy more alkaline will work for me. Just some thoughts here on it.

Was just popping back in to say narcotic pain relief is another option. Does nothing for inflamation, but is an option.

I see someone beat me to it! :)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
