Like many of you, my biggest fear is that I will not lose weight after surgery. I don't start my pre-op diet for another week and I'm scared I won't lose weight on that either. I have been using My Fitness Pal religiously for a month now and have only lost 5 pounds. For the past week and a half the scale hasn't moved at all. I've been exercising, being honest with portions, not eating as many unhealthy foods, and have only gone over calories and one or two days, and even then it was only by a hundred or so.

Admittedly I'm addicted to the scale, I weigh every morning, but it should have gone down over one week. I feel discouraged. Is anything I do going to matter? I know my PCOS doesn't help any but something has to give. I'm feeling so discouraged.

I always found that to show a loss in the morning, I needed to eat about 4-5 hours before bed. If I ate closer to bed, the scale would not budge in the AM, even though I'd done well.

Dont be discouraged!! It may seem like things arent going the way you want right now but trust me I was in your shoes once and theres not reason to be discouraged. You will lose weight but it takes time. The preopt diet will help and probably but hard but you can do it. After the surgery you will start seeing the results that you want. Just keep at it bc it is a life change. You can always talk with me if you need to

You could be toning muscle if you have increased your exercising. Muscle weighs more. My scales didn't move for the first two months but I could tell a difference in my clothes and my energy level. Pretty soon you will see a jump in scales. Just don't give up!

I have a Love Hate relationship with my scale. I'm either obsessed with it, or completely ignore it for months. I'm only a few days away from starting my pre op diet. Not looking forward to it, but know it needs to be done. Seems to me we're all pros at losing the weight (you are too) it's keeping it off that's the problem. Keep at it, you'll do great!

(((((smmrsue)))))

We will succeed!

5 pounds in a month is perfect...this is not a race its a lifestyle. The preop diet will likely be much more restrictive but will take off more weight....lifestyle!!! Good luck!

You've had success even before starting the pre-op! That's great! I went on a 10 day cruise and started my pre-op the day after we got back, so I'm sure I gained about 5 pounds during the same period of time you lost 5 pounds!

I'm addicted to the scale, too, but have found that I lose weight in spurts. I'll lose three to four pounds over a day or two, then maybe gain one, then stay the same a day or two, before coming back down. I weigh on my scale daily, but I consider the doctor's scale to be THE SCALE!

drink as much Water as possible, and maybe if you are struggling now, maybe start your preop diet a bit early in order to help lose for surgery..good luck!

Thanks for all of the support, I really needed it. Just one of those days I guess.

Xavier, you are right, it's a lifestyle change.

I may not lose weight at the same rate as others but if I continue to follow the plan there is no way I can fail..... (hopefully)

Thanks for being there for me everyone! So happy to have found this forum.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
