Lap Band Removal - Post Recovery

Recommended Posts

Hello All - I am new to this forum. I had the lap band done on Jan 6, 2012 - did not work for me - hospitalized 2 weeks after - could not eat anything for 8 weeks or thereabout -finally got the band taken out on March 6, 2012 - I am now experience new issues - still I feel as if I have a golf ball stuck in my throat - also it takes a while for my food to be digested. I burp as if the band is still in my stomach I start feeling the swelling towards middle of the day and seem to get worst - I was told by the clinic where I had it done this maybe from the breathing tube and would take a few days - not happening.... went to my GP today who has now referred me to a ENT specialsit - I am really worried - has anyone experience any of the symptoms below:

Feels like a golf ball is lodge in your throat?

The port side incision seem to be much larger with the removal?

How long before the swelling goes down?

I am travelling in 2 weeks and really want to feel better - any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi

I had a lap band put in on 6-7-06 had lost 60 pound was feeling good than all of a

sudden could not eat any food nothing would go down and after a scope of my

stomach was told I had developed Barrett's Esophagus and had to have the Lap-band removed on 8-09. The Surgeon advised me to have the RU-N-Y surgery on to stop further damage to my Esophagus, so on 1-22-10 I had a Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass done and have not had any problems with this surgery. My doctor told me anyone who has GERD before Bypass should never have Lap Band surgery. For you I would have your Doctor do a scope of your esophagus to see what is the Golf ball it took me from 1/09 to 8/09 to get my problem fixed and I had

to change Surgeon and hosptial to have the problem solved. The Doctor who put

the lap band it did not want to believe that the lap band caused the problem, but

my second opinion surgeon said he had been taking more lap-band out in 09 than

he was putting in. I found that to be very interresting. I don't know it this help you

any, but you are not alone. Nancy

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
