Update: I May Be Allergic To The Band...

Recommended Posts

I am definitely not! I saw the surgeon and an allergist, and they said its 99% impossible for me to be allergic to the band, so it will not be removed! Phew! I hit 40lbs yesterday since 1/14/12, so I was so nervous!

However, my breathing issues haven't been resolved. I went back to Pulmonary yesterday, and I am still wheezing pretty bad after being on inhalers, nebulizers and steriods. They said my lungs may have been injured during the surgery when the anesthesia tubes were inserted. I was given another round of steriods and I go back next Friday. If I am still wheezing, I will have to have a camera inserted into my lungs and see if there is any damage or blockages or masses. This kinda freaks out seeing I will be awake! They said if they find anything, I will have to be put under so hopefully my body just needs an extra week of steriods!

Anyway...thought I would share since so many of you were concerned and so supportive when I initally posted. Thank you again!

Wow Amanda, you poor thing! I just wanted to share something with banders. I have noticed when it comes to lungs, If I eat something that does not quite go down right. I will evenually cough off alittle flim. That would always scare me because I have horrible lungs. Amanda honestly it sounds like you are on the road to recovery and going forward into a rewarding journey!! Good Luck in the future ours prayers are with you moving forward

Good luck figuring out what's going on. That's scary stuff. Glad you're not allergic though, that would be devastating.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
