Going Shopping...nervous!

Recommended Posts

I hit the 75 pound mark a few days ago, so to Celebrate I got rid of my humongous clothes and resolved to go shopping for smaller things. I've had a few mini shopping trips before this, but this will be a big one since I literally have nothing to wear. Now call me crazy, but the thought of being able to shop pretty much anywhere is an intimidating thought for me. When I was heavier, it was Lane Bryant or Torrid, and if I didn't find anything I was screwed. Now it's like the world is my oyster, and it makes my head spin! Anyone else feel like this? I know I should be happy to be able to find clothes anywhere, but it's been years since I could shop at any store I wanted and it's a little scary!

I havent had the surgery yet, but I know exactly what u are speaking about, the thought of being able to shop anywhere makes me so anxious that I get dizzy! But i think you should take it slow & take your time and make smart choices in what you buy, try not to let it overwhelm you! Congrats on ur weight loss! I can't wait until I get my surgery !

I know! I had my first Old Navy shopping trip in December! I didn't even know where to begin! LOL. Great to have those troubles, huh?

OMG I can't wait to get that that part of my weight loss! I think I would max out a credit card on new clothes so I have to be real careful. I can't wait to start shopping for matching bras and panties at Victoria Secret or Fredericks!

It is intimidating but try to enjoy it. You will probably start with bigger sizes than you really need, I know I did. I couldn't believe I was having trouble finding clothes small enough for me! On the down side, I've had some regain, need to loose 20ish pounds. Anyway, congrats and don't buy too much, they will only last for so long lol.

Just ENJOY!! You have worked so hard to get to this point! As said, if you're still on your journey, buy some nice basics and maybe a couple of trendy pieces to get you through. I find you can get great prices at Old Navy and Gap stores in the U.S. for basics (outlets are even better!).

Trust me you will get used to it!!!!! It took me awhile to venture out to different stores. I would shop Jjill alot cause I could squeese into their 18s sometimes, so that is where I mostly shopped. Now I can go in anywhere and get anything. Its addicting. And now I love shopping. I have put off getting anymore pants until summer cause I want to see if I can still lose these last few pounds.

But I am almost at my personal goal of size 10, I can fit into them, but they are still a little tight. I might stop at 170. Dont know yet!!!

Have fun!!

I know what you mean. During December my mom took me clothes shopping for Christmas gifts. On a whim we went into Macy's and tried on stuff that wasn't in the plus section. Things actually fit!!!! Once we realized that, we went downstairs...the entire first floor is regular sized clothing...and I got overwhelmed and started to cry. I had to leave. Way too many choices and sections to check out. I ended up getting a few XL from the petite section and left. Haven't been back since. Still scared of it.

I have been to old navy since then and bought 3 pair size 16 jeans...that now fall off if I don't wear a belt (first time in my life I've worn a belt!!). Even after washing the jeans in hot Water and drying on high, they're still big. Now it looks like I will have to go back and buy 14s.

Another type of store I stayed away from before is Marshall's/Ross/TJ Maxx. They only carry plus clothing that looks like a moo moo. On a whim the other day I stopped in a Ross and bought 2

Sorry was typing and hit the wrong button.

Bought 2 pair size 14 dress pants and they fit. A little snug but not too tight.

It's exciting but scary at the same time to give up my comfort store, Fashion Bug, as the one near me is only plus clothes. Now I get to check out their regular sizes!!! Yay!!

Happy shopping everyone!!!

I was wearing a 1X (18-20) and always shopped in the plus section but yesterday went to Macy's and bought two tops in the regular size department...but I kept venturing over to the plus section looking...it was so strange. Even when I took the tops into the dressing room I kept saying to myself, "there is no way these are going to fit" but they did!

Congrats on your loss so far!!!

The first time I tried on "regular" sized pants and they fit, I stood in the fitting room crying. Take several sizes of the pants you like into the fitting room. Cause if you think your Z...you just might be X. I don't know how many times I had to go chasing smaller sizes!

How fun! Enjoy your shopping adventure. For me, for the first time ever, I am actually wearing out clothes.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
