Alcohol After The Lap Band

Recommended Posts

I am an occasional drinker and I have drank like 2 times since being banded. I will say I felt the effects of the alcohol very quickly! Like halfway into the drink I was feeling pretty darn good!

I was actually told that they had found that band patients who do drink alcohol (in moderation) lost more weight than the others. He said that I still needed to be aware of the calories, but a couple of glasses a wine a night for instance would do no harm.

I am, also, a cheap date! As far as drinks goes, I can tolerate about a 1/2 glass of wine. Tried champagne on New Years Eve, once again, I was tipsy at 1 glass to salute the new year. My son, who has been banded for 8 months, went out to the bar for Xmas party and got so drunk that he passed out, but not before vomiting 2 x. Drink if you like, but be careful, it might(won't say will) hit you quickly!

I have had my band for close to 4 years, I do not find that I can't drink as much as my pre banded days, I do not feel that I feel any more of the effects of alcohol I go out a couple times a month and usually drink girlie drinks, malibu rum, margaritas, etc..and I am very weight concious and keep up with my band so my band is at a level where i can only eat the recomended amount of food. I just think it depends on what you are drinking and how much you have ate and when compared to when you are drinking

I drink and it isnt a problem. Yes there are calories wasted but I am usually so tight the next day I eat basically nothing so I feel it evens out.

I dont even think about the band when I drink. Maybe its because ive been banded for a while now.

I drank a lot on Friday during a pub crawl and I was very tight the next day. I was actually worried I had damaged something since I was only 5 weeks post op. Haven't felt 100percent since. I have learned my lesson. Need to take it easy next time.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
