Fills- Need Advice And Information

Recommended Posts

Hi all- My first fill date is a week from today- and I just wanted some advice. I'm losing weight well, down 20 lbs (7-8 pre-surgery, the rest since) but absolutely am doing this by watching what I eat, logging, etc- white knuckling it while very hungry! I have seen a couple people say that they didn't get a fill because they were losing well, so the Dr didn't think that they needed it. I NEED one! LOL. I know I"m in bandster hell and want to get out of it! I guess I need to be really frank with my doctor and just tell him that while I'm dedicated to making this work, I want the band to start helping out with fills.

I just am nervous, I think my Dr is one that listens to his patients, and I am pretty knowledgeable about what this all entails......but are people sometimes denied a fill because of how the dr interprets their answers about losing weight, etc?

congrats on the weight loss...... I got fills even when i was losing... My dr asked are you hungry.. i said all the time. He said, ok, then let do a little fill

You are right about the first few months after. It's a lot of self monitoring and discipline. I felt no restriction for a few fill. So don't get discouraged if you still get hungry.

I have a 14cc band took me to two years to get to 10.9... lost .9 along the road (dr said it evaporates) so in December i was back at 10.5cc.... until the 15th when it all came out for my Tummy Tuck. So i'm back at point one with no fill at all.

Surprisingly ... i'm not that hungry, but my stomach is still swollen and i know that as that goes down, my hunger will go up...

My doctor has been very good about listening to me since day one. I was banded 14 months ago and each time I go, he takes his time to ask alot of questions. I answer them honestly even though at times, I admit, that I'm afraid my answers will lead to him not giving me a fill. Just be very honest with your answers and from the way you explain your hunger (even though you are doing great with your weight loss), I am sure that he will give you one. Good luck and keep up the great work!

Nice Job on the WL !

When you tell your Surgeon that your starving, he'll give you one.

He won't want you to be to uncomfortable.

I don't know what size your band is, but allot of times, it takes time to get to the rite fill level.

So be patient, it comes with time..

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
