Banded Feb 8Th 2012

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone!!

I'm so excited that I found this forum, I can't wait to read all the great stories and ideas that you all have shared..

My story is, I was banded on Feb 8th 2012. The surgery it's self went well, but I did have a problem with anesthesia.. I had some kind of asthma attack so I couldn't breath when I started to wake up.. Dr's. think I might have just gotten to much fluids into my system because now I am fine and show no signs of wheezing or any kind of asthma problems.

I'm not in any pain except for a slight pain every now and then on my right side, mostly when I bend over. I've lost 15 lbs since the day of surgery and 14lbs prior to surgery so a total of 29 lbs.. I'm on the mushy phase of my diet and I'm doing about 1/2 cup of food per meal.. That seems to work for me. At times i do feel hungry but when I do I just start to drink more and that seems to really help.. I think I've got a good system going that works for me so I'm happy abou that..

Now, excercising isn't working like I would like.. In November I broke my foot and my cast just came off on Feb 3rd.. I still don't have bone to bone contact with the area that's broke, but I don't need to ware a cast anymore ( actually I had a cast on for 3 weeks, then I moved to a boot ). My ortho dr. said I can do very light walking but I need to be aware the bone hasn't healed yet and I just need to give it time.. So, I'm not real sure when I will be able to get back into doing some kind of excercise.. I've continue to do light walking and that's it..

I have a mailbu pilates machine that I just got and can't wait to use it, but I'm waiting on lapband dr to clear me for that. I've thought about doing curves or siging up to a gym, but I will wait until I get the ok from dr. first..

I'm looking forward to reading all the post and reading about everyone's journey.

Congratulations! Your regimen sounds a lot like mine. As for excercise, you could always do upper body stuff while sitting. Things like twisting (but not too fast), light arm weights or one of those resistance bands. My doctor told me to not lift to much but as far as sit-ups, etc...he said okay unless it starts to hurt. Also, if you have a Wii Fit Plus, there are some great yoga and strength training excercises on it that don't really require any special equipment. Blessings to you!

My routine is usually, get up have def tea, wait 30 mins then have 1 egg scrambled or 1/4cup of cottage cheese with 1/4cup of fruit. For lunch I have delmonte stew or some kind of chunky Soups drained that have meat and veggies I add veggies to the stew as well. I usually have the same thing for dinner. I'm still working on the food so I'm still working on that. yesterday I had lentils Soup with some broccoli. All drained, all mushed

when you were doing your liquid (pre and post op) what types of things were you drinking? (hope you do not mind me asking)...

I drank my Protein Shakes (still have at least one a day made with unsweetened vanilla almond milk), Water, more beef broth than chicken broth, sugar free Jello. I've added sugar-free Hawaiian punch single serving packets to my water bottles. I had sugar-free popsicles. De-caf tea---sweetened with Splenda or "Stevia in the raw".

I don't mind the questions at all. That's why I like this forum. It has been so helpful to me and everyone is so willing to share their experiences.

before the surgery I was on Opifast for 14 days.. I had 4 drinks a day, with Optifast Soup for dinner and a Optifast granola bar for my 8pm snack. I also was allowed 3 sugar free jello's per day, but I only had 2 a day.. After surgery, I had bottle Water with crystal light, cream of wheat ( with 8 oz of Water ), I had Tomato Soup, thinned. I had Protein shakes two a day, which I continue to this day.. I buy my shakes from costco, 30 grams of protein.. Def tea, I also allowed my self no more then two sugar free Jello or puddings per day.. I purchased these cream of chicken soup in a packet which was easy to thin out..

Now I drink, def tea, bottle water with crystal light, and my two Protein Shakes a day.. I usually started the day with a cuppa tea, then wait 30 mins and have Breakfast which is usualy around 10 am.. I try and have something every 2 hours. So my schedule is

10-breakfast,

12- Protein shake

2-lunch

4-protein shake

6-dinner

all other times I drink, I just make sure I don't drink 30 before a meal and 30 after a meal, unless it's a Protein shake..

Hope this helps and I don't mind you asking at all.

Hello Everyone!!

Band going great.. Since the day of my surgery which was16 day's ago, I've lost 18 pounds. Total wt loss so far is 32 pounds. I feel real good.. I still don't have a fill yet, I'm due to have my first one ( if they do it ) on March 28th. I do get hungry at times, but not that often.. When I do get hungry I just drink and that seeems to help.. I'm eating 1/2 cup of food per meal and that seems to work for me right now.. I'm trying to get excercise in, but I have to do a much better job getting into my everyday life...

I have no pain anywhere, if it wasn't for the scars I wouldn't even know I had surgery..

I like it better than most other sweeteners. I will still used Splenda in some things. The Stevia, too me, is a little sweeter than sugar and most times I can't tell the difference...unless I put it in something hot. Something about heat changes it just a touch and you can tell its not sugar. Though, i do believe they have another "formula" (for lack of a better term), that is good for baking, etc.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
