Pre Op Diet/new To The Group And My Lap Band Surgery Date Is Feb 24 2012

Recommended Posts

I just wanted to introduce my self. I am Sophia and my surgery date is set for the 24th, I am excited biggrin.png nervous unsure.png and scaredwacko.png , but I know in the end it will all be worth it. I am on the liquid pre op diet right now and I am having the hardest time. I have to tell my brain and mouth NO! a lot. Is any one else going through the pre op diet as well, any advise for those who have already gone through it? I keep telling my self 4 more days and then my brain says nope, its a few more weeks... laugh.png lol!

Hi Sophia, I has mine done on the 13th. There is a whole group on here for us done in February. Lots of support and a really great group of people all at similar stages and going through a lot of the same feelings and thoughts.

I have found it very helpful.

So welcome and lots of luck in your journey!

Hi Sophie and everyone. ive just joined the forum and really pleased to see that there is one where everyone can share.

Im inbetween my referring dr and specialist. i have an appointment for march 7th to see my specialist.

im currently online a lot reading up on material, watching youtube videos send in by others who have had the surgery and im getting a really good idea of what its all about.

my issues arent completely about weight, although im overweight by about 6 stone. my main issues are multiple surgeries for joint problems and replacements due to arthritis. now its my feet and my knees have both had replacements. my hips are locking at times as well so losing weight is the only way to go it seems. Ive also got high blood pressure.

im a bit scared.I can see that its definately a life changing surgery. ive always loved my food, like everyone here i guess, andi can see just how seriously i have to take this surgery for it to work with me.

im just reading that one has to go on a liquid diet beforehand. can someone please explain a little more about that please?? how long for?? and how soon before surgery?? im so pleased i found this forum. judych

I'm scheduled for the 27th....on my ninth day of two week pre-op diet...protein shakes and sugar free drinks.iced tea, water....and 1-2 cups raw vegetables..for me that's carrots and lettuce.....its hard especially at night for me and on weekends..I've found that sugar-free ice pops seem like a real treat and help a lot... Also going to work helps- keeps my mind off being hungry.. don't know how much weight i've lost so far, I never owned a scale - I guess that's part of my problem. My family can't believe I've stuck with this pre-op diet. Can't wait for surgery!

My surgery is the 27th. I am on day 2 of the pre-op liquid diet. This is to shrink my liver which hopefully will make it easier for my surgeon to get to my stomach.

I planned out my whole week on the diet. I also made a list of things to do to distract me. I got out my crochet hooks and projects.I pre-cooked and froze family meals for this week . I have all my Water bottles filled and waiting in the fridge. I have a bunch of cleaning projects to keep me occupied. Also washing and car appointments.

It is easier on my work days.

I am now cleaning out my closets and preparing clothing to donate. It is a very cathartic experience!

Hey Sophie, I've started my pre op on 2-16 and I must say the first three days was not that easy. I had a really bad headache, but now no headache. Now I'm trying to figure out the difference between me being hungry or my addiction getting the best of me(help). Overall it does get easier as the days go on, and keeping busy helps. I have my surgery 3-1, I just keep thinking I don't want to do anything to jeopardize my surgery. Good luck :)

The liquid diet depends on your body and your docotr, it depends on what is needed for surgery. I am not sure why I had to do one, I just went with the flow... Good luck! keep us posted

I agree, the first 3 days seem to be the hardest, I wanted to cheat so badly and all I could think about is what I could be eating, but then I started thinking about what I could mess up and all the work I did to get here and I said NO MORE food thoughts just think about the good that is going to come,,, seems to be the only thing that has helped me as well....good luck!

yes, i certainly will keep you posted. im online checking on everyones progress and my appointment is wednesday week. im not sure how long after that i will have the surgery. i want to get it over and done with as soon as possible as winter is coming and its hard on us. I want to feel confident about my diet when winter is truly here ... thats goign to be the litmus test for me. I did ask somewhere, not sure if it was here though. i need to buy an appliance that will puree and also juice. Does anyone have any ideas on what i can buy?? i have no idea at the moment... i think i would want the appliance to do both. What do the rest of you use? judych

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!
