Just Got My Surgery Date!

Recommended Posts

My Dr submitted to the insurance on Feb 2nd and had the approval by Feb 3rd. Scheduled for March 19th. This all has gone so quickly! Nervous and excited. I was given a list of Protein Drinks and powders that they recommend and plan to try several to see what I like the best. Will be on them for 1 week pre op and 2 weeks postop. Love this forum to chat with others going through the same. Not comfortable talking about it to many people as they just don't understand what it is like, what a big decision it was to decide on the surgery.

Congrats!! Surgery was one of the best decisions I've ever made. I'm almost 7 weeks post op and have lost 41 lbs!! YAY! please let me know if you have any questions. I love these forums and I keep up with tons of blogs. It helps you understand the whole picture, not just what the dr tells you!

Congrats. That is super fast. Good idea to try out different Protein drinks and find a few you can tolerate. None taste that great. Adding something to them can help. Many, many suggestions on these board. I like to add a little sf pudding to mine. If they are really bad, some fruit helps ie. blueberries or a banana, also sf davani or Torani syrups are good no cal adds. It helps to have them on ice and very cold. Lots of good advice and support . Good luck and keep us posted on you progress. Yes it is a big decision to have surgery.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
