New Here With A Couple Of Questions

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I am new here and have a couple of questions. I have completed my 6 month doctor supervised diet and exercise program and completed all of my other necessary appointments my insurance required. All of my paperwork has been faxed to my insurance and now I am just waiting to get an approval. I am very anxious for the next part of this journey!

My question is for those of you who have already been banded. How much time did you take off of work? Also, I have a very important tradeshow coming up for work at the end of February which is when I am hoping to have the surgery. Would walking a tradeshow for a few hours be too much for me after surgery?

Hello! I took a week off. I had my surgery on a Monday and went back to work the following Monday. It was fine for me. I was real tired that first day back, but okay beause I have a sit down job. Does your job require you to stand a lot or do strenuous activity? If so, I suggest 2 weeks. I don't know what a tradeshow involves or how soon after surgery you are planning on doing it. I wouldn't suggest planning to do it the week of surgery. You are not even supposed to be driving for a few days. Good luck and if you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask! :)

I am a desk Jockey so I too only 4 days off including a weekend but when I went back to work the gas pains was so bad that I took the rest of the week off! So in reality I took a full week off!

I had my surgery on a Wednesday and was back to work on Monday. I felt fine.. Yes I had lil pain but not bad enough were I needed to be at home. I also walked the mall the saturday after surgery. It really helped with my gas pains.

Hello,

Thank you for all of the great feeback. I do work at a desk so I wont have to do much while I am at work but I was curious about my comfort level.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
