Stuck all the time !

No ! As long as you take small bites (I like the size of a DIME, you have control of it in your mouth.) chew it up to the consistency of applesauce, and take your time you won't get stuck.

If you eat thick Doughey foods, that are Dry, and won't go down, yes you will get stuck! You will learn very fast, which foods do not agree with you and your band.

Those foods you will not eat.

Good Health to you, Shirley.

My nutritionist told me to chew each bite at least 15 times. I started doing that before my surgery and was amazed at how I'd been swallowing my food almost whole!

I'm just starting on mushies now; I bought 24 demitasse spoons (like baby spoons, except for adults!) and 24 appetizer forks and already know that its going to be hard going when I start solid food next week.

Sorry - I forgot to put "at Sam's" when I bought my spoons and forks. I didn't really want that many (although I'm using the spoons 3 times a day), but Sam's restaurant section had them 24/$10 each, which was roughly the same as one fork and spoon that matched my silverware. After thinking about it, I decided that I was going to be using them every day for a long time and I wouldn't have to wash them every time I used them - they just go into the dishwasher with the rest of the silverware.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
