Keep On Top Of Your Surgeon's Office!

Recommended Posts

My fiance is scheduled for lap band surgery on February 15th. Everything was all set (we thought) until his surgeon's office called to confirm his pre op doctor's visit. They basically said "Oh and by the way, you need to do A, B and C again because the results are over a year old." Naturally my fiance got annoyed with them and asked why he was able to be scheduled for surgery when the results of these tests were outdated. The receptionist cheerfully replied "Oh, it must have been an oversight." Now he's scrambling around to try and get all these tests redone before his visit. He has already taken the time off of work, which was tough to begin with because of his job, so he can't afford to have the surgery rescheduled.

Moral of the story: Be up your surgeon's backside and make sure their office has everything completely in order. They probably won't tell you there's a problem until it's too late to fix it and then you're the one who's screwed.

One of the best things you can do for your own self, and Surgeons Office is the following.

Invest in 2 pocket folders.

Every time you go to anyone get weighed, and get the print out.

make a copy for your own file, and turn one in, when it's time for surgery.

If they say "it's o.k., we have it all !" Then not a problem, but if they are missing anything !

They have it now.

You keep copy's of everything in one of those folders, just in case they ask for something later on.

Trust me,,, it does happen.

But you are right ! Keep close tabs on everything, after all, it's your surgery.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
