Mike P's Lap Band Surgery Ride To Success

Recommended Posts

Hey all - I am new to the forum. I just had my banding on 12/29/11 - 4 days ago. I have lost 13 lbs already but realize it is all Water (actually can vouch it is all water). My doctor was great and explained everything to me before my suergery and to my wife right afterwards. I started at 342.5 and my goal is 200. I really will depend on this forum as I have questions and need support. Hope everyone is doing well and has a great new year.

My doc only required me having liquids 24 hours before the surgery. Others say their doc wanted longer. I am doing ok though - not hungry but miss chewing... Are you having surgery soon?

Welcome and congratulations on your decision.

Hang in there, follow your Dr's directions, and things will eventually start to happen.

This is great place for information and answers to any questions you may have.

I am having mine on Jan 6 this friday. I was wondering do you still feel hungry or does the surgery actually make you not feel hungry? One of my fears is that I have the surgery and I will still feel hungry all the time. My dr gave me a 2 week liquid diet. I am feeling very hungry now. That's why I wondering what you had to help you through the liquid diet.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
