14 Day Post Lap Band Surgery - Time For Mushies! Help!

Recommended Posts

I am now 14 days post op and its time to start mushies (slowly). I made it through today with cottage cheese, tuna fish and some mushed up Beans. After just those few things I am already starting to feel hungry again ... I made it through the first 2 wks perfectly on liquids. I am just worried that I am going to get to craving real food again too quick (already feel like I am) ! Any suggestions on "mushy" type foods that can take the place and take the edge of lol. I also started to notice that I dont feel much restriction as the bands not filled but I did feel a bit the first week and change as I guess I was healing..

Thoughts, Advice, Support!?

Thanks!

Sorry that I dont have any answers for you because I just got banded 6 days ago and I am starving. Me and the liquids are just not getting along. However, I wanted to ask you do you know when your doc intends to give you a fill? How was the tuna ? I really think I am going to have a hard time with the pureed phase. I cant imagine eating anything pureed and I cant see myself on baby food. I might just have to stay on liquids until soft solids or stick to pudding, yogurt, and applesause yikes. Did you put the tuna in a blender and how much would u say u ate ?

I am on day 7 and mentally hungry. Are you allowed applesauce and yogurt and pudding already? I go for my postop check tomorrow and I really hope they say I can have some of that stuff or pureed food.< /p>

I ate things like Pasta and lasagne . tuna lasagne was a favourite. I grated all the veg in my food processor before cooking it to make sure they were extra small. Lots of mashed veg like pumpkin, squash, zucchini etc.

No worries on not having the answers! I had my post surgery appt last week, my fill is 1/31/11 which is about 6 wks from the surgery date. The tuna was great! I ate about 1/2 cup I would say? He did not tell me I had to put it in a blender, he suggested soft foods like egg salad and tuna fish, cream of wheat, Beans. Anything that is mushy that isnt going to be rough on my stomach and to take it easy and feel my way through it which is what I plan on doing. The liquid phase really didnt bother me, the Protein shakes filled me up and I am sure my appetite was just lower because of the surgery... but we are all different. I also have a vita mix at home so I made some of the Soups that you can with them and they did seem like a treat even though they were all liquid and in-line with the diet. I did not have any pudding, or yogurt or applesauce. Just Jello, liquids and some sugar free ice pops for 14 days. You'll get through it ... think about you are bascially halfway there.

Anyone else ? I'd love to hear back! And Crystal feel free to bounce anything else off of me id be glad to be "band buddies" lol.

Tmr, the 29th is my lapband surgery but I remember my nutritionist saying mashed potatoes with gravy is ok in the pureed stage as well.

Hi guys,

All I have been doing is Protein shakes, tea, and sugar free hot chocolate...I hate Soup and the texture of Jello...whats wrong with me :(...Well I am glad that I dont have to put tuna and stuff like that in a blender because I have serious texture issues with food. I am sooooo over this liquid phase. I cant wait for something else, and we can all definately be band buddies. I would love the support. Nobody else in my circle can really understand what I am going through!

I am finding support is the key! Luckily my brother had the surgery more then 5 years ago so I can lean on him a bit. It made the process alot easier so far, it also made it easier when talking to my close friends and family about it. I figured since the ice was already broken with him, it was that much easier to just to be out and open about it.

So far so good! feel free to PM me. I'd be glad to chat!

I'm stumped myself on the puree/mushie stage, I had carefuly steamed some salmon stuffed with spinach and chesse in the microwave, then i choped it up and added some chicken broth and into the processor it went, a small serving of fish blended up to about a custard cup full wich is 1/2 a cup or so. it was not bad but i think fish every night would get borring. I think baby food for fruits and veggies might work well in a pinch or carefuly cook my own and blend then frezze for later i guess.

thank god tomarow is payday and i'm excited to start cooking again.

For mushies I ate low-fat refried Beans. I mixed some taco sauce is to make them looser and then melted a bit of cheese on top and ate it with a little ff sour cream. I also added ricotta to a cup of jarred Pasta sauce and a sprinkle of ff mozzerella and nuked it. Tasted like lasagna w/out the Pasta. I mashed tuna or a hard boiled egg with a slice of very ripe avocado. Still a go to lunch for me. Mashed cauliflower. Mashed squash.

Try to get as much Protein as possible. It staved off the hunger. If you are still drinking Protein shakes mix them with lf milk or lite soy milk for an added boost of Protein.< /p>

About a cup. But I am learning to stop eating when I feel the least bit full. I once overate the refried Beans right after I started mushies cause they just tasted so good to me. I still was not going regularly. I had such a tummy ache for days that I could not eliminate. I never did it again.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
