Pain In Abdomen - Wondering If Lap Band Slipped

Recommended Posts

So I got stuck yesterday after a few bites of grilled salmon, and everything came back out pretty violently (without my control... and sorry if this is TMI.).

Since then I've had this weird pain inside when I take a deep breath or now even just as I sit here typing. I also didn't feel like eating and only forced myself to drink a Protein Shake for some nutrition since I had only had Breakfast all day.

I am wondering if this is just my body reacting to what happened, an irritation from the incident, or whether the throwing up did something to my band and moved it out of place or something.

Anyone experience something similar? What does it feel like if your band slips and can this happen from such an experience?

I'd appreciate any advice you have.

Thanks,

Jo

I'm no medical person, but it sounds like you've irritated your stoma/pouch and need to go on

liquids for a day or two to let any swelling go down. If you're stil having problems in a couple of,

days, you should probably make an appointment to see your doctor, but give it some time.

Exactly!!!!! Take it from me, the queen of PBing and all that. If u slip, u won't even b able to swallow ur own saliva let alone anything else! It irritates, warm liquids for the next 2 days. If this doesn't work, then u need to get in to the doc so they can Fluor u and do an unfill.I was unfilled for a year while I healed due to bein a bad girl with my band. I ate alL the wrong things. For me salmon never worked, neither did most meat if it was too dry. Chew chew chew, use ur tongue to pulverize it against the roof of ur mouth b4 u swallow.....it works. U can message me anytime, I'm banded 5 years this month!

you may have pulled a muscle in your stomach too. Take it easy for the new day or two. sometimes taking liquid benadryl helps.

I also have to watch on days that the weather changes, i sometime will get tight on days that are really cold. On those days i drink hot coffee, it help loosen it up so i can eat.

I know this will sound funny, but if i wear a bra tight around my chest, i will get stuck.

Stephanie, thank you so very much for your input. I have been having trouble for about a month. Some days I think my band has slipped because I cannot eat anything but I can drink, slowly some days, but I can drink. On days that it is cold it is especially hard to eat. I will not freak out as much. Once again thanks.

I have been having pain at my port site today, feel like I just had the surgery. I can eat, drink, but my site is swollen. Maybe a pulled muscle, is that what your experiencing? I called the dr, the nurse said the port didn't flip, the way it is in there now. It has been 5 wks since my surgery. I read to put ice on my port, I hope this works, cause muscle relaxers haven't.

U have had problems for a month....trust me when I tell u that u r simply too tight!!!! Classic symptoms. A lot of us who r in our sweet fill spot have to "warm it up" for business in the morning by drinking something warm. Cold things makes it a little tighter......trust me :-) call, go get a slight unfill. Everytime u do this, ur irritating ur pouch and will get so swollen u can not swallow anything.....again, trust me, been there done that a zillion times. I'm surprised the clinic hasn't told u to come in......u would b surprised at how just a slight unfill will make it better. If u have any heart burn/acid reflux, u r 1000% too tight.....ur doc should do fluro on u to see just how tight u r. Any questions? Message me anytime :)

If your port site is red or warm to the touch, get to your doc ASAP. It's a sign of infection.

No, I checked, I was warm because of my sweatshirt and having a 12 wk old asleep on me. I have a heating pad on my tummy. I feel so bloated, like I can't pass gas. Im scared now from what I have read, it would be appendicitis. If I am not better in the morning I am going to the Dr after class. its not red, I have gone through the 4 sighs of infections, redness, swollen, tenderness, and fever.

I do have an infection, I am going for an ultrasound today, if there is Fluid or infection, they are removing my port this afternoon. I am scared to death! I am tempted to tell them to removed the whole lapband!

don't give up.... let them fix it and see how things go. it's only been four weeks..... the first few months are the hardest. don't let this deter you. talk it over with your dr and see what he/she says....

I had my ultrasound, no infection or fluid! I am thinking it is inflammation of the tissue around the port. It is still red though, that can be from it being irritated. I am on 750 mg of Keflex 3 times a day. So that should clear up anything! I was wanting it removed b/c my daddy got staph infection from having an aortic aneurysm repaired. I am a worry wort!

I am very happy you were seen for it and they checked you out! It sounds as though they are treating a possible infection even though the ultrasound was negative. So, the doctor may think there might have been something brewing that he wanted to stop.

You are still healing from the surgery. So it isn't odd for the incision to be red. But I say, if something doesn't feel/look right, call your surgeon. That is what we pay them for.

After nearly 4 years, my port site sometimes gets irritated by my waistband. It is a very minor price to pay in my book. It is just due to the location my surgeon chose to place it. But it works well fo rme in that it doesn't stick out or show in any way. I am just aware of it at times.

And staph infections are NO fun at all. I had one on my extreme lower back (read "backside"). I couldn't sit for 2 days. I don't blame you being worried!

I agree with many of the above posts. I had my first PB about 2 months ago, it was completely my fault! I ate way too fast and it just came right back up (cottage cheese...so it wasn't stuck, it was just me trying to eat too much and my band going, no way!) Then at thanksgiving I had some turkey and oh man that didn't go well! I had my first "stuck" episode and then PB'd for the 2nd time. After the "stuck" episode I was sore...thought about doing liquids, but decided my dr had encouraged high quality solid Proteins. I blended up the turkey in my magic bullet with a little miracle whip for a few days, I was full, no stuck episodes and worked my way back up to solids without having an empty tummy feeling.

Hope you're doing better!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
