I'm having my LapBand done on Dec. 20th and i have to get a hernia fixed as well. I don't really think it adds any extra pain or healing time but I could be wrong

Hey -- wanted to let you know I had surgery on Oct. 26 - with hernia repair, and it took more time to recover than w/just the band. I took off from work a little

over a week, and still didn't have much energy...wanted to sleep a lot. So - be forewarned. Also - be SURE to take you're pain meds....is absolutely critical!!

I had the band and hernia repair 10/27...I had no pain from the surgery, just the stupid gas pains and like lovepups said, I was tired for a good 2 weeks. The upside...I LIVED on antacids...NO MORE! thumbup.gif

Had my operation yesterday, honestly it's not too bad, had some dry heaving with the nausea-- that, I would have to say was the worst part of it. My Hernia was a surprise, they said it is pretty common in women who've gone through childbirth, they documented it and ticked off the box" large" Hernia repair. I was surprised but glad they caught it, could explain all the acid reflux and heart burn over the last couple years. The only pains I can say I am having are from the gas (CO2).

I had surgery on 10/27 with hernia repair which they said was pretty significant. I had two weeks off from surgery which was long but my boss didn't want me over doing it plus I had the time. I started to feel so much better during my secind week but I got tired easily. I probably could have gone back that week though. Its not bad just take your pain meds and walk.

I'm guessing you're talking about a hiatal hernia? I had a hiatal hernia too. By day 3 I felt pretty good. I went out shopping, though after being out for like 2 hours I started to feel a bit nauseas, but nothing crazy. Make sure to get a scopolamine patch, they put one on me prior to surgery and I had no issues with nauseas while I had it on (I've heard other people have gotten real nauseas post op). Though I did have trouble focusing my eyes while it was on. I went back to work as an LVT 7 days post op and I felt pretty good except for when I was bending down, I was sore.

As for knowing if the recovery was harder, I doubt it, but since I never had a lap band surgery before I wouldn't know. And anyone who says it's harder is just stating their opinion, since they hadn't had lap band surgery before either.

I had a hiatial hernia repair during the lapband surgery too. It is very common for obese people to have them.

I had surgery on 11/11/11 with a hernia repair. The only pain that I felt was from my port area.

My husband and I just went to a seminar last week and the surgeon there mentioned that many people have hiatal hernia's. While performing the lapband, he fixes the hernia which takes typically takes another 15 min, depending on the hernia, etc. I have since heard this is typical of many lapband surgeons.

I'm new to this myself and researching and talking to those who I know who have had it. I've scheduled my surgery for the end of January and looking forward to it!

I had a moderate sized hiatal hernia repaired when I had my band placed on 11/23. I would say that most of the discomfort comes from the gas they fill you with. My port incision is sore but as for the hernia, I don't feel anything or any pain when I sip my shakes or Water. My surgeon said that I wouldn't notice any extra pain from the hernia fix. But everyone is different. :) good luck!!

99% of WLS patients have this hernia repair. Just goes with the overweight syndrome. It will be fine!

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
