3 days post op

Recommended Posts

I'm 3 days post op and I'm so miserable. The pain is much more than I expected. I haven't even been able to drink a whole bottle of Water in the past 2 days. I can't get Jello down comfortably. It has taken an entire day to get a half a thing of jello down. I just feel horrible. Am I just being impatient or a big baby. I also think I may be way over doing it with house cleaning and things.

Jamie, put you feet up, get your ipod, watch TV, read a book, but just give yourself time to heal.

You just had major surgery, you're not supposed to lift more than 10 lbs for 6 weeks. OK, so maybe

that's not possible, but still, take it easy. Any house cleaning will still be there next week. You

can take liquid Tylenol if the hydrocodone doesn't work, drink lots of tea and sip, don't gulp Water.< /span>

It's really important to get as much water down as possible, up to 64 oz and everything counts,

even the water in yogurt. Take it easy, don't stress over small stuff, a little depression is normal,

and be sure to take a bunch of time for yourself. All the pain is normal, most people go through it.

Try to keep your attitude positive and I'll guarantee you'll be over this part in just a few weeks.

I promise it will get better. I was there too, all I kept thinking was what a horrible mistake I made. I honestly didn't think I would ever feel normal. Almost 2 weeks out and I feel totally back to normal. This too shall pass! Just take your time and rest and let your body heal. I promise it will get better!

Tomorrow will be a week since I had the surgery and the pain from the incisions is mostly gone. I have never had any vomiting or anything so I'm pretty lucky. In the past 3 days I have developed this chest/ epigastric pain which can be severe at times. It feels like pressure that startes under my sternum and goes all of the way up to my neck sometimes it goes out to my shoulders. The pain goes away if I lay on my side and comes back as soon as I stand up. I'm am still very gassy and distended from the surgery so I constantly pace hoping it is gas pain and I need to walk it off. I'm scared to death that the band has slipped. I hope I'm over reacting and this is normal.

Stretching with my arms above my head helped me with the gas pains. A lot of people recommend a heating pad also.

It gets better, I promise.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
