Operation

Recommended Posts

I have had a lapband since 2005 and lost around 7st. I have just recently had an operation to have ovaries and cysts removed in which I had to have open surgery rather than key hole.

Due to this operation I had to be deflated and cannot have it put back in until I have had my 6week check up (10th November). I was filled to capacity. The hospital has said they will put it back in so, do I assume that they will do this free of charge? I am under the impression that it will be done free of charge.

I also asked my original band filler on how I should go about these fills and they said I shouldn't have it all put back in all at once which, I do expect the hospital not to do this anyway as they have there own department now for bands and fills and would know what they are doing. The person I spoke to said it should be done in two stages at least.

I am starting to put weight on as I feel so hungry which has surprised me. I would of thought, that after 6yrs my stomach would of shrank that I would of been full on the same amount I have been consuming but it's almost like I can eat the same as before the band was fitted. I did expect to put a bit of weight on as lack of exercise due not being able to move around as much but not the hunger. I also have found that, when the band was filled I didn't want certain food as soon as it was deflated I started getting cravings.

Good luck, to you! Sorry to hear about your surgery. NO advice, just best wishes! Karen

I don't know how it is in your country, but I beleive that here, anything that is done, costs.

Not much done in an operating room is free.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
