:nervous Nice to meet everybody! Imma newcomer as well. I've already had my consult visit and my doctor is Paynter from the Gastric Band Institue in Chattanooga. I went last Thursday for my consult and the nurse says to give the insurance company 6-8 weeks to respond. So, I thought in the mean time I would try and find some folks to talk to that are going through the same thing. So....;) lol

Brenda, lapband, they put a band around your stomach. Bypass, they cut and reconnect part of your intestines, bypassing part of it.

We got my wife's doctor from www.obesityhelp.com . Yes, we have insurance with Blue Cross of Texas. If you have to self pay with our doctor, Dr. Jayaseelan, it is $15,000 for the whole shootin' match. Doctor, hospital and anastesiologist (sp).

Kelli, how's it going with the healing? What are you going to have for your first mushie meal? Joy had garlic mashed potatoes from Chili's....

Randy and brojas,

I think it's going very very good! I am 1 week postop today and cannot believe it! I have been maintaining myself with Protein shakes, chicken broth, Water, GUM, and tonight I had split pea Soup (nothing in it). I am really hungry tonight!! I did have some pudding which is obviously not a clear liquid, but it went down fine. I am beginning to want to eat mushies really bad. Was your wife 2 weeks out before she had those taters? That sounds so good! My doctor said, "no mashed taters!" LOL. I can't wait! :) Thanks for asking--did I notice in a thread that you work in a coal mine?

I had my surgery with Laparoscopic Associates of San Francisco. My surgeon is Dr. John Feng. My experience with him has been excellent and I would highly recommend him.

That's correct on both counts...she was two weeks out and yes, I work in a coal mine about halfway between Dallas and Houston.

Now, check with your doc's office, but I heard that they consider "clear" liquids anything that doesn't have lumps. So try the cream of potato Soup and strain out the pieces of potato. Joy liked the cream of mushroom, too.

Randy,

I will try those!! Interesting work you do especially among the most recent tragedy. My grandfather was a coal miner and it fascinates me that people have the nerve to do that! In Chicago, at the science museum, they have a simulated coal mine that you can tour, and it freaked me out!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
