Getting sick after lap band surgery

Recommended Posts

No I dont mean throwing up either THANK GOODNESS! I am just under 2 weeks post op and feeling under the weather. I dont know if this is me truely getting sick or if I am just so run down after the surgery. I did have a rough time with pain after, and I am finally feeling more human with the ability to move and bend and walk distances so I am very thankful, but I am SO tired and just feel cruddy. Is this a common post surgery thing that I can help get myself out of or am I looking at the beginnings of getting sick :-( * I am getting at least 30-40 grams of Protein (that is all I can manage to get in right now and dr said it is ok for the short term since I am not eating much), I do take B 12 sublingual, and Calcium and Vitamins, and ALWAYS have Water with me* Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

It took me about four weeks to feel completely normal. Dr. said it was due to the trauma to my abdomen, duh. Give it another week or two.

well I woke up with an earache and sore throat so it wasnt just healing, although I prob was more likely to get sick because of trying to heal. Oh well.

Hope you feel better. A surgery is a big deal for your body and will weaken your immune system, you're much more likely to pick something up.

I often find I get sick if I really kick the exercise up a notch and I will ALWAYS get sick if I go for a swim in an indoor public pool.

Yet I can work in a classroom full of five year olds and not pick up a sniffle.

You could have picked up something in the hospital. A little infection or virus. My dr said it is not unusual to leave with something. But you just might need more time to finish healing. It is hard on our bodies and to some (me) it is an emotional thing too. I hope you feel better really soon.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
