Please HELP! Surgery this week and no support!

Recommended Posts

Fortunately, I carry my weight very well so my family doesn't understand how a surgeon would even band me. I've had 3 back surgeries and have horrible reflux and have asthma. I've lost the same 50lbs fifteen times. My mom and sister haven't experienced weight problems until about 10 years ago, vs my whole life...I'm 36. I'm having a very hard time. They don't even want to discuss it, won't watch the video, and say I'm not going to be ant fun to eat with. I've cried off and on all day and am really stressing out. I'm on the pre op diet and just want to say screw it and eat. I'm thinking "shouldn't I be able to eat all I want right before surgery?" especially since I'm paying out of pocket! I know bad attitude...but I'm stressing!

You must have felt very strongly about your decision to get this far in the process. As you make better decisions about your diet and it shows in weight loss, your family will be facing their own dysfunctional eating habits and unhappiness with their weight/health status. You will be a constant reminder, so expect more resistance.

Don't sabbotage yourself by messing up your pre-op diet. As you know, eating is fun, but being fat and unhealthy is not. You know this.

Use this situation as an opportunity to take control of your life and honor yourself and your decision. Good luck and keep me posted.

don't stop your pre op diet.the diet is supposed to help shrink your liver.if your liver is swelled to much doc might send you home.how they explained it to me is,if your liver is swollen it would almost be impossible to move it out of the way so he can put the lap band in.example take a big piece of Jello try to hold it in your hand it will fall apart.same goes with your liver.if it is to big and he attemps to move it it will tear it.then you are looking now to get a liver transplant.not trying to scare you but my doc said before he starts his surgery he makes one small hole inserts a camera and checks how big the liver is.and that will tell if you followed the pre opt diet.if your liver is to big home you will go.so it is very important you follow the diet.now for your next question you have made your mind up you are having the band put in well as for your family if they don't want to stand behind you and praise your decsion for a better life and health.tell them you are doing this for you not them.i have been banded 2 months and i am doing well with it you just have to put it in your mind you are going to do this and your going to make it work.i think one thing your family might be jealous because your going to be skinny and well you fill in the blanks.if this is what you want for you go for it.its not a bad operation.if i can tollerate it anybody can good luck any support or question you have about the surgery or after surgery i will be glad to help just drop a line and i see what i can do to ease your fears.

I have had many people mention all the functions that are centered around food and how I will be sitting there while everyone else has a big meal. I have to tell them that I am tired of my life revolving around food. I think I am interesting enough to have a conversation at dinner that the amount of food I have should not make a difference to anyone. If it makes a difference we don't have to eat together. I love my life and my daughter more than I love food and this is why I am doing this.

Give them some time and they will eventually come around. Ask them if this difference of opinion is really worth the rift in your relationship? Tell them you are going to have this done and you are going to succeed whether or not you have their support but it would be easier with it.

I hope things work out for you and your family.

I live alone and fam knows but is kinda far away. surgery day, when it gets here will be a major disruption with small kids- school etc. so I am alone. I pray and God to lead me and keep me through all the ordeals. I have had colonoscopy- endoscpoy and the worse manometry test to get this done. It has been challanging and I am not approved yet. I get on the website , realate to some of my buddies on here who encourage me alot. so hang in there! Keep your mind on a new you, a better you, happier and healthier. I look at all the before and after pictures, when i feel low, that helps me. Some times, you must go through alone, but then you will sing that old tune... baby if you could see me now :D !.. you will be OK, face front n center- hup!

It doesn't matter how we pay we have made a decision to change our life for the better the harder we work at it the better our results will be, no one said it will be easy and no one else can do it for us just remember that the end results will be our greatest rewards so start now and work harder than we have ever worked before and the pounds will come off, the diet and exercise will work, and when we reach that target weight work even harder to make sure we maintain that target or it will be all for nothing because we must remember that this is only a tool, and a test of our willpower is still the only way we will succeed. I will be a November bandster and I will succeed so any one who wants to succeed with me jump on my bandwagon and come along for the journey , Think positive and be positive My diet starts tomorrow and my band goes on November 2nd , so come one come all join my friend page and we can keep each other strong and on track to succeed .

Were on here for support !

I'm sure yu know you must do what you have too. Anastesia with this surgery is down to a Patton. So you don't have to worry about that.

It's all a vary smooth surgery, with pain meds. to keep you feeling almost pain free, until you are pain free.

If yur family doesn't know how to approach you on the matter, don't worry about it. They might not know enough about it to talk..

With what you have learned, or in your books from your seminar, you might want to educate them a little ????

That's up to you.

I can be found most times, and you can feel free to send me a message if you want, and I will gladly answer your question if I can.

Take Care, Shirley.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
