anyone doing presurgery diet Thanksgiving?

Recommended Posts

The only bad thing about my December 1st Lap Band Surgery date is that i have to do a two week pre surgery liquid diet and that means i am not enjoying Thanksgiving this year. I am italian and food is our thing especially during the holidays, but even though the closest i will be to a turkey is to be drinking my turkey broth, I WILL be celebrating the holiday. this year I am thankful for the courage i found to start this journey. I am thankful that i have a job and have insurance to pay for this (minus some copays along the way). and thankful for my husband and children for their love and support and most of all THANKFUL for this forum and the many friends I have made in the short time I have been on this forum. I keep this forum open on my computer all day while i am at work, and i have the opportunity to check it ever now and then (when the boss isn't looking lol).

so here is to the December bandsters. Good luck to you all and feel free to send me a friend request. we can share our journey together.

I won't be doing the pre-op diet over Thanksgiving but I will be doing it over Christmas. My surgery date is 12/27. So, like you, I will enjoy my turkey broth for the holiday! I guess its a small sacrifice to make after how far we've already come and what we've got to look forward to! Its still going to be tough watching everyone else indulge in yummy treats over the holidays while I refrain! Good luck to you!

The thought has been in my mind. I will be eating real food, not liquid over Thanksgiving.. But I'm going to be keeping it more reasonable and not spending all day eating like I have never eaten before lol.. I will be on liquids, and in bed over Christmas, so my celebrating will also be sans food.

I'm also so grateful to be having this surgery that I don't even worry about missing food. I think it's the best possible time to do it, and it's the best gift I have ever given myself! What a great way to start 2012! It's a new life!

Thankfully being from Canada Thanksgiving dinner happened a few weeks ago but I'm sure it's still sitting on my hips  I am actually happy about having surgery Dec1st. I am so done with stuffing my face, and having this done before Christmas I am not adding more pounds to sit on my hips and not having to deal with a Christmas hangover come January.

I am pumped about how great a year 2012 is going to be. Summer is going to be a whole different ballgame, I can't wait!! I have moved away from all my family and friends and won't see them until August, I can't wait to shock them with the newer me.

Don't get to caught up on what you're missing out on- focus on the gift you're giving yourself, imagine how wonderful you're going to look in 6 months, in a year, as an old lady with her health. Keep that image fresh in your mind to get your through the rough spots. Be kind to yourself in other ways, a new hair cut, a new lipgloss, keep coming to this forum, read the positive stuff. There are some truly inspiring people and stories on here. Maybe someday it'll be you inspiring someone like us newbies!!

My tenative date is December 16th, so I won't be on pre-op for Thanksgiving, but I am hoping to be really good and lose a few more pounds before then, so I volunteered to work over Thanksgiving so I won't be too tempted!

I will be 9 days post-op on Christmas, so that might be a little rough, but I keep telling myself that this is the best Christmas present I have ever given myself and my family!

@nikki_att84 - we should be band buddies!! That's my surgery date also! I start my 2 wk pre-op liquid diet thanksgiving day! The doc's office was nice enough to tell me that I could have lunch an start that afternoon. So, that's what I'll do :) so looking forward to a fantastic new year!

I'm also looking forward to summer - just think how far along we'll be by then! We'll have an active spring and summer, and some will be reaching their goals by this time next year. It's amazing to think about..

Oh yeah! chicken broth for my turkey dinner as well!! Surgery date - Dec. 5th - But honestly, the idea of overindulging as I have done so often in the past doesn't even sound appealing this year. I am so ready for this surgery and looking forward to my "new life" to begin. I love putting the focus on what we can be thankful for and not on the food. We all can certainly count our many blessings!

Thanks for starting this thread.

at my last nutrition class we found out that on the pre op diet, you can substitute one Protein shake a day for 3 oz of boneless skinless chicken breast grilled. this is a definite for thanksgiving. it will make me feel like i am eating dinner with the family. 1/2 cup of salad cucumber, tomatoe, lettuce and splash of fat free italian dressing all allowed on my pre op diet. not bad.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
