3 weeks post - what foods do I add?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm 3 weeks post surgery. I have been eating cottage cheese, chicken, chilli, Soups, scrambled eggs, mashed potatoes, and of course Protein Drinks.< /p>

Can I start adding veggies now...I'm guessing cooked. Just wondering what are some good healthy foods to add. I have been tolerating

everything very well...so far....but I really do miss salads and veggies, etc......to early for a subway sandwich with lots of veggies???

Thanks,

Carrie

What has your doctor said your diet should be at 3 weeks post op? I have noticed that all the doctors seem to have different plans & theories. My doctor wanted me to work in foods with substance at day 7...by 3 weeks post op I was pretty much eating regular food. just had to watch my calories, carbs & make sure I was getting enough Protein. Cooked veggies are easier to tolerate than raw ones, still that way to this day. However before my first fill I pretty much was able to eat the same as I did pre-op... so back then I was able to tolerate bread. Now bread is something I stay clear from because it always gets stuck.

Im 7 weeks post op. At 3 weeks post op i was still in "stage 2"...pureed food...i didnt start to eat "real" food until about 5 weeks out. You should ask your Dr/Dietician where you should be at 3 weeks. All Dr's are different for some reason.

I am also at week 3. I was told to start trying to add meats cooked in sauce or soft meats in weeks 3 and4. (and was specifically told to try chicken, fish, ground beef, and cold cuts). Also in week 2 and 3 to add soft cheese and cooked veggies. For weeks 5 and 6 I was told to try all meats cooked normally but chew very well. I was also told to make sure I try bread. She basically told me to experiment but make sure to chew well and not to over eat. That's the part I'm struggling with, figuring out when I'm full. I figure it's only week three and I have a lifetime to get it right :)

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
