IMO, It all depends on how much weight you want to loose. My Dr. and I discussed it as a option, but since I have less than 100 lbs to loose, I opted for the band.

I have more than 100 pounds to lose and I opted for the band as well. so far so good. I myself would never have the sleeve or bypass....at least the band is somewhat reversable if something goes wrong. everyone has to decide for themselves what risks they are ok with. every surgery carries the risk. the sleeve and bypass may or may not work in the long term, just as the band may not work....but for now, I'm doing great and am happy with my decision.

Hi, everyone in my support group either had the sleeve or getting the sleeve, but im sticking to my band decision, eventhough they loss more quickly, I don't like the idea of getting 85% of your stomach removed

Well I have lost a total of 115 lbs. so far, and still a long way to go. But I am doing it with the Band.

Best Decision I ever made !

You are not Banded, but yet knows that the Band SUCKS !

In my opinion,, it sounds to me like you already made your mind up !

I sure wouldn't go with something that SUCKS !

So if the sleeve fails in a few years, and some of them have ! ! !

Don't cry about wishing that you still had part of your stomach left.

Especially when it's hauled away as Toxic Waste.

That's your Decision.

I only wish the best of Luck.

Shirley.

Well I was at my consult yesterday. It seemed the staff really liked the promise of the sleeve. You lose quicker. My surgeon (who I LOVED) saw it in me that I was hesitant about getting rid (or as he said "it in the bucket") of my stomach. I am pretty confident that the LAPBAND it will be for me. I am willing to put in the work with the eating and gym. It may take longer but I just want to get to my goal and keep it off once and for all and that is most important to me. If you are not sure don't do it.

I think its a personal decision. Like the poster previously, I felt more comfortable with the band because if there were complications it can be removed. I love my band and feel its the best decision I have ever made :)

i think if you have over 100lbs to lose they should do both, the sleeve then put the band around the sleeve, the band so far to me seems more like a maintance thing then actually helpingme lose the weight. just my opinion

I agree with you both, Okie and jsea, especially since at age 16 (that's what his profile says), I doubt his parents would allow him to make the final choice of lapband or sleeve. Really?

Well, I have the band, and seeing as how I've lost more than 120 pounds in less than 10 months, I'm not sure how much faster anyone would WANT to lose weight. So to my way of thinking, that argument isn't valid.

My choice to have band surgery (beyond convenience and cost) was that it is reversible, and nothing inside of me got cut up or cut out. If the band develops problems, it can be removed. If sleeve or bypass surgeries go bad, they can't fully put you back together again. So it's a decision to make for the long term, not just for the moment.

And I'm told that even if average sleeve or bypass patients tend to lose faster initially, after a couple of years it all sort of equals out with bandsters. And two years out from surgery, does it really matter HOW you lost weight? To me, at that point it's more a matter of being done with the excess weight, and living a healthy life. How you get to that point isn't as important than that you're there.

The thing about the band surgery is that you have to work it. It is not a magic bullet, or an easy way out. Unlike other surgeries where the remaining parts force weight loss on you, with the band you need to eat right and exercise to lose weight properly. If you're lazy and want to eat anything you want and not participate in your weight loss, then the band is not the choice for you. It's your decision, and the quality of your life you're deciding on.

Good luck!

Dave

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
