Weight / Qualifying Question

Recommended Posts

Hi all. My weight is right at a BMI of 40. I'm worried that with a diet of any kind I will fall under the requirement for BMI. When are you weighed? And which weight is the one that is submitted with your insurance paperwork?

Hi stacey! I am not sure what the weight requirement for you is, but here in australia, the place where i am scheduled to get my banding done says anything above 35 is a definite qualifier but because of the high risk of diseases linked to obesity, they have approved lap band surgery for patients with a BMI of above 30, check and ensure that this is the case for you too. Also, when is your surgery booked for/ estimated time that you may have it? you have to keep that in mind as well when considering these factors... if you have any concerns just contact the surgeons office and express your concern to them, im sure they will understand and explain what needs to be done! However, i think the weight that is submitted to your insurance company would be the initial weight you were at when you applied for the surgery... so if you lose any weight after that, i dont think that would be an issue...!

xx

I'm at bmi of 41, my surgeon will use my initial weight when it's time to submit the paperwork to insurance company, I was told it's ok to lose, so with that in mind I'm trying to lose at least 20-25 lbs by my 11/21 tentative date, paperwork will b turned into aetnA on 11/14

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
