First fill - still nothin'

Recommended Posts

Well, I was banded on 8/12, and got my first fill yesterday. I guess I have a 15cc band, and my doctor gave me 5cc to start. I was on liquids for the remainder of the day, and started with Stage 3 again today.

So far, no restriction whatsoever...which I kind of expected. I go back in 3 weeks for an additional fill, I can't wait.

I have to tell all of the people who are dreading that first fill.....it was a piece of cake. I was in and out in 5 minutes. Didn't even feel the needle. It was incredibly simple and painless. Even if you are someone who does not like needles, it really wasn't that bad.

Congrats on your 1st fill. I, too felt no restriction for my 1st fill - until about 2 weeks later! Seriously! It still wasn't enough and I was still battling hunger but by 2 weeks after the 2nd fill (I know - sounds strange but it's not uncommon) I was really noticing the difference. I've had a 3rd fill and will see the doc tomorrow regarding a 4th. I may not need it! I no longer feel hungry between meals and I'm finally loosing pretty consistently

I have had abosolutely no problems with the actual fill process either. The first 2 were totally painless and the last was a tiny sting. NBD ;)

Thanks for the encouragement Barbara. Thanks to you and the other people on this great forum site, I knew exactly what I was in for and set my expectations accordingly. I fully expect that I will need subsequent fills....but good to know that I can possibly see some restriction in the next couple of weeks.

I had surgery on aug 22 and my first fill sep21

Mine hurt like hell when he filled the band…did not get any numbing cream so I guess it was my own fault also felt sore for a few days (pa said this was normal)

i figure a minute or two of pain is worth it for my new body

I got 3 ½ cc and had 1 in the band so I have 4 ½ with a band that goes up to 10 (wonder why they are different sizes? Do guys get bigger bands or bigger people)

Two days liquids 2 days mushies and real food yesterday

Was real hungry last night and don’t know if it was head hunger or stomach hunger

Though I didn’t have much restrictions but gulped down my lunch yesterday as it I was busy and forgot about the band …boy did that hurt like hell

Trying to keep the 1000 calories but still hard go back on oct 17 for another fill

The surgeon said if I was hungry to come back sooner but I think I will wait a few days and see what my new normal

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
