Some questions from a newbie!

Hi there!

28/F here.

I have been thinking about having surgery for a couple years now. I finally made an appointment a few weeks ago and this Wednesday I'm meeting with my potential surgeon.

Last week I had my Mental Health Evaluation. She seems to think I'm in the right state of mind to proceed ;P

I've been going to a weight loss center for over 2 years-will that count as a "6th month supervised weight loss attempt"? During the 2+ years I've been on/off Phentermine among other things.

The doctor's office has the records I had sent over.

My insurance is Care First Blue Cross Blue Shield (Maryland) My insurance rep says the biggest challenge is going to be my age (under 30) and the fact I don't have a BMI of 40+. Although, I'm pretty close.

OH, is a sleep study mandatory??

Just taking it all in here, so much great information and helpful people :)

Hi and welcome to our forum. As for the sleep study, I think most clinicians are requiring it as sleep apnea really is dangerous to your health and recovery from any surgery.

The sleep study is perfectly painless, just a bit annoying but do not fear it. I am one who is hoping I can get rid of mine (CPAP) post surgery.

Keep us posted on your progress.

Melinda

Depends on your insurance company. I have Aetna and I did not have to have a sleep study. Maybe because I had enough co-morbidities to qualify without looking to see if I had sleep apnea. Good luck on your quest!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
