Help, I am so confused :(

Recommended Posts

I have been doing a ton of research regarding the lap band and have read so many opposing opinions that I am totally confused. So I thought I would post here since this is a lap band forum.

I have been told by many in my research that the lap band wont work for me because I have a bmi of 50.4.

Several times I have been told that I am only setting myself up for disappoinment and that it will be a waste of money.

Is there anyone out there that started with a high bmi and has found the lap band an effective tool. I am not looking for a miracle, just for something that is less invasive than gastric bypass and will aid me in my Quest for a healthier life.

I am 60 years old and dont want to spend the rest of my life morbidly obese. As it stands now, I will be 65 before the loan for this surgery will be paid off. I dont want to go into this feeling I am wasting all that money.

HI I was 47.5 bmi & I have finally lost over 100 lbs....it has been slow....frustrating....time consuming...sometimes painful...but still some how worth it.

We are all different...maybe yours will go smoother....but it is a choice you have to make, no one else.

I wish someone would have told me more of the bad things that may happen, before surgery, but if I would have known what I know now, I would go thru it all again to get here.

Also I have been hearing about a 3rd choice where they just make your stomach smaller & don't remove any intestines, so not quite as radical as bypass surgery. This way is also faster than the band.

But it seems to me that myself & all the friends & family that I have that have had either surgery, all end up in the same place eventually....(the band is much slower, which is helpful to people like me who really need to learn how to behave, & are slow to learn :)

but good luck w/ what ever you do!

MY BMI was 68... I weighed 432 pounds. (that's hard to put in writing) This morning the scale read 300.2 and my current BMI is 47 and I can say with all honesty, even if I never lost another pound it was soooooo worth it. (ok... I would like to at least see 299!)

I had a BMI of 53 and one month after surgery I'm down to a BMI of 49. A had a very easy surgery and my surgeon didn't think twice about doing it. I think you'll be fine. Sand I'm 56, so not that far from your age.

My BMI was 51 and I have lost 46lbs in 3.5 month with the band. They band has helped me so much in with Portion Control. Alot of it for me wa mind over matter. I only have 1.5 cc in my band and feel very little restriction. I refused my last fill because I exercise alot and still loose weight. I will probably man up and get another fill at the end of the month words cannot explain how it is helping me in my weightloss journey.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
