How are your incisions?

They are fine - 6 incisions (don't know why so many) Very little pain from the incisions.

I last took pain meds last night to help me sleep, & haven't taken any today.

The best thing about today though - taking a shower!!! It felt so good!

My surgery is scheduled for tomorrow at 1130 am. I'm very nervous but also excited. I'm hoping everything goes well!

The hospital totally screwed me. I was supposed to go in at 1130am..didn't go in until 8pm! Today I'm a little dizzy still but my stomach is healing pretty well.

I finally have my hunger back. Last night I thought i was beginning to feel hungry, and I confirmed that when I woke up this morning with a growling stomach. I can't wait to be able to start eating oatmeal beginning tuesday!

Only a couple of days to go, Eric! How funny is it to be excited over oatmeal?

Well... I was out visiting the guys at the fire house this morning & decided to check the scale while I was there (i don't have a scale at home). I'm down almost 7 pounds since my surgery just 5 days ago! It was great to see!!!

Thats great!

I sure can't wait to find out what my post op diet is like - the doctor didn't want to go over it until after the surgery (though I know it is low carb) because he says he wants you to focus on this stage before and then focus on the other stage after. I guess that makes sense........

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
